Schumer Leads Dem Senate Delegation in Visit to Border, Describes Conditions as 'Inhumane'

“Unbearable, inhumane, heartbreaking.” These were the words of Senator Chuck Schumer after he led a Democratic delegation of Senators to the southern border on Friday, July 19, to evaluate conditions at a border facility in Mccallen, Texas.

The delegation visited the same facility visited by Vice President Mike Pence the previous week.

“To see these people, coming to America in search of a better life, treated in such inhumane conditions,” tweeted Schumer. “This is heart-wrenching. This is wrong. This is not who we are.”

In another video shared by Schumer, he describes a child “not able to even brush his teeth” at the facility.

Schumer’s Senate colleague Dan Cardin was also part of the delegation. “Trump’s zero-tolerance policies are targeting real families and real children fleeing violence and searching for safety,” he said. Credit: Chuck Schumer via Storyful
