Schuylkill County's Grayson Cole finishes second in Professional Bull Riders Velocity Tour Reading Invitational first round [video, updated]

Feb. 11—In its return to Berks for the first time in 12 years, the Professional Bull Riders Velocity Tour Reading Invitational began with a splash on Friday night at Santander Arena.

Quentin Vaught won the opening round of the two-day event with a score of 86.0 with his ride of bull Chop Top, which lasted the full eight seconds.

"I rode good," Vaught said in his post-event interview with PBR. "Just do the same exact thing (tomorrow)."

In front of his "home" crowd, Schuylkill County native Grayson Cole produced a score of 85.5 with his ride of Old School, which went the full eight seconds. Cole enters Saturday's competition in second place, 0.5 points behind Vaught.

With qualified rides (eight seconds), nine riders enter Saturday with aggregate points. All 35 riders will compete again in Round 2 on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Santander Arena, with the top 10 advancing to the finals.

Friday's scoreboard:

1. Quentin Vaught, 86

2. Grayson Cole, 85.5

T-3. Brandon Davis, 84.5

T-3. Dylan Smith, 84.5

5. Hunter Ball, 83.5

6. Claudio Montanha Jr., 82.5

7. Dakota Warnken, 80

8. Beau Caplinger, 79.5

9. Zane Cook, 76.5

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story stated that the top nine riders, including Grayson Cole, advanced to Saturday's finals, while the other 26 riders were eliminated. That was incorrect, as all 35 riders will compete again on Saturday in Round 2, with the top 10 advancing to the third, final round based on aggregate points.
