The city of Burlington to host an adoption sale for the holidays and Alamance County opens an alternative for jail.

Here's The Scoop on what's happening in Alamance County this week.

Home for the Holidays

From November 2 to December 31, Burlington Animal Services are holding an adoption sale to send animals home for the holidays.

Adopt any dog or cat for only $15 and includes spay or neuter and vaccinations, according to a press release from the city of Burlington.

Burlington Animal Services is located at 221 Stone Quarry Road, Burlington. Burlington Animal Services are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday's.

If you can’t adopt, BAS needs foster homes as well. BAS supplies food, supplies, and all medical care for pets in foster homes. To learn more about being a foster, visit www.burlingtonnc.gov/foster.

A senior at Eastern Alamance High School was awarded for their dedication to Alamance County as a student, athlete and community member.

The Heisman® High School Scholarship was created in 1994 through a partnership between Wendy’s® and The Heisman Trophy Trust, according to the Heisman High School Scholarship.

Since its start, the program has used on the reputation of the Heisman Memorial Trophy as" a symbol of great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work," to award high school senior athletes for their leadership and talents on the field, according to the Heisman High School Scholarship.

This award puts Johnson a step closer to winning both state and national honors for her dedication as a student-athlete.

Breaking Ground

The Alamance County Sheriff's Department is assisting Vaya Health in opening a new diversion center in Alamance County.

The opening ceremony took place on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022.

The Diversion Center will offer an alternative to jail for non-violent misdemeanants who suffer some form of mental illness, according to a press release from Alamance County Sheriff's Department.

The Diversion Center is located at 963 Kirkpatrick Road, Burlington.
