A holiday bakery has opened up to raise money for child sexual abuse prevention, a new entertainment venue is coming to the Burlington. Here's the Scoop on what's happening in Alamance County this week.

The Burlington Athletic Stadium, home of the Burlington Sock Puppets, has begun planning a new entertainment venue.
The new venue will be a three-tiered structure placed along the first base line where friends and family can gather, eat some good food, and grab some beers -- all with a view that makes them feel like they’re virtually playing right field for the Sock Puppets, according to a press release from the city of Burlington.
“Our goal is to provide a high valued experience for anyone who comes to Sockville (in-season or out of season), and this structure will allow us to do just that," said Sock Puppets General Manager Anderson Rathburn.
The venue plans to modernize the stadium while still honoring its' historic encasing, according to the press release.
"The new entertainment venue will greatly enhance the atmosphere and functionality of Burlington Athletic Stadium,” said Burlington Mayor Jim Butler. "This venue will be exciting, and it will be one that corporate citizens, individual citizens, and visitors from out of town, can all enjoy."
The venue will allow the Sock Puppets to use the ballpark year-round through hosting an array of events outside the team’s June through August season, such as a possible Christmas Lights display, according to the press release.
"The entertainment venue will truly change Burlington Athletic Stadium as we know it and allow this historic facility to not only welcome members from our community year-round, but also will attract tourists and business to our city and county,” said Rathburn.
Currently, the concessions and gathering spaces are behind the stands but with the new venue, guests will be able to grab a snack, mingle and not miss a Sock Puppet home run, according to the press release.
The entertainment venue will be available for rentals, according to a press release from the city of Burlington.

A local bakery is raising money for child sexual abuse prevention this holiday season.
Dewey’s Bakery Holiday Fundraising Store is open this holiday season for all sweet treat needs and to raise awareness about child abuse prevention.
The bakery is a fundraiser to support Connect 4 Faith's "Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Initiative and Outreach Ministries".
It is is Dewey's fifth year partnering with Connect 4 Faith, a nonprofit based in Alamance County that advocates for children and prevents child abuse.
Enjoy Ginger Spice cookies and other Dewey's favorites while supporting an important cause.
Customers can also order ahead for special fresh item deliveries.
Use the fundraising code, DEWPART35, at checkout to donate 25% of your online order to Connect 4 Faith.
Dewey’s Bakery Holiday Fundraising Store is located at Alamance Crossing, 1023 Boston Drive.
The bakery is open from Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Extended holiday hours are expected to be added.
Dewey's will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
