Scooter's Coffee Month means free coffee for Topeka customers in September

Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, and Scooter's Coffee considers that sufficient grounds to offer a special promotion while declaring all of September as "Scooter's Coffee Month."

The company will give away one free cup of hot brewed or drip coffee per customer per visit for all of September, it said in a news release. No purchase is required.

"Get a head start on celebrating National Coffee Day," the release said.

It quoted Joe Thornton, Scooter's Coffee president, as saying "We want our loyal customers and new customers to enjoy the indulgence of free coffee not just in celebration of one day, but for an entire month."

The offer will remain available while supplies last at participating locations, the news release said.

The Topeka Scooter's stores are among participating locations, said employees who answered the phone Friday at those stores.

Franchisees Kurt Van Laningham and Randy Fair opened Scooter's four Topeka locations in late 2019 at 2909 S.W. Topeka Blvd., in 2021 at 3830 S.W. 29th, in 2022 at 3510 S.E. 29th and early this year at 1409 N.W. Topeka Blvd.

How did Scooter's fare during the pandemic?

Scooter's is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, having been founded in 1998 by Don and Linda Eckles in Bellevue, Nebraska.

The couple chose the name "Scooter's" because it fit well with their mission of keeping customers happy by helping them quickly "scoot in and scoot out."

The company's footprint grew even during pandemic days, as it went from having about 400 stores nationwide in March 2021 to offering about 700 stores in 29 states now.

Its goal is to offer 1,000 stores by the end of next year, the Scooter's news release said.

What does Scooter's offer?

Scooter's uses 100% Arabica beans, sourced directly from farmers.

The company's signature drink is the Caramelicious.

Its menu features specialty espresso beverages, single-origin coffee, "cold brew" iced coffee, fruit smoothies, Red Bull Infusions, baked-from-scratch pastries and breakfast options.

For children, Scooter's offers a lemonberry-ade and a new chocolicious milk.

All Scooter's drinks are available hot, iced or blended, its website says.

In terms of fall bakery treats, Scooter's is offering pumpkin caramelicious muffins, pumpkin spice cake bites and maple waffle sandwiches.

Customers may scan the Scooter's Coffee Mobile App to earn "smiles," which can be collected and redeemed for free drinks.
