If you're an Amazon Prime member, you know that Amazon Prime Day—essentially, Amazon's own personal version of Black Friday in July—is just about the best time of the year to shop. Every summer, the sale gets bigger and the deals get even better, and this year is no exception.

The sale, which officially starts today (Monday July 15) at 12 p.m. PT (3 p.m. ET), will run for 48 hours—12 whole hours longer than last year's Prime Day, which ran for 36 hours (and was already extended from years past). And to top it all off, you'll find more than one million deals across the site, along with special limited time offers, never-before-seen entertainment, and exclusive launches.

How to Shop Prime Day Deals:

Before you can take advantage of this year's Prime Day discounts, you need to be an Amazon Prime member. If you already have a membership, you're in luck! If not, don't fret—free trial memberships count, and you can sign up for one here. (If you're not into it, you can always cancel before your 30 days are up, so you don't get charged the membership fee.) And if you're a college student, you can actually sign up for a free trial that lasts six months.

What to Expect This Year:

New discounts for this year's Prime Day sale will continue to pop up today and tomorrow, and you can expect plenty of deals in categories like electronics, kitchen appliances (the Instant Pot was last year's best-seller in the U.S.!), back-to-school items, and so much more. Prime Day last year marked the biggest sales day for smart home devices in Amazon history, so you'll find tons of discounts on smart home products this year, too.

Prime Day Shopping Tips:

Look for Lightning Deals—and Check Often.

Much like last year, alongside the regular discounts included in Prime Day 2019, you'll also find tons of lightning deals, which are huge discounts that last for a shorter period of time on a limited quantity of items. You'll want to check the Lightning Deals page every few hours to make sure you don't miss out on anything major.

You'll See More Artisans and Smaller Businesses.

This year, Amazon is also pushing customers to support artisans and smaller businesses that sell through Amazon on Prime Day, with hundreds of thousands of deals. To find them, you can shop Amazon's dedicated page of Prime Day deals from U.S.-based innovators, artisans, and entrepreneurs, and find discounts via Amazon Storefronts, Amazon Handmade, Amazon Launchpad, and more.
