Girls basketball

CRESTVIEW 50, SOUTH CENTRAL 39

LOUDONVILLE 71, ROOTSTOWN 46 Going on the road, Loudonville battled an 11-3 Rootstown squad and earned a nonconference win. Shalen Guilliams scored a team-high 31 points, including five 3-pointers, to pace the Redbirds. Corri Vermilya added 20 points.

HILLSDALE 53, RITTMAN 45 Hillsdale picked up a Wayne County Athletic League win over host Rittman. The Falcons have now won six games, which matches last year's season total. Leading the way for Hillsdale were Sydney Elliott and Lauren Bishop. Elliott hit three 3-pointers, scored 16 points and snared seven boards, while Bishop posted a double-double of 16 points and 20 rebounds.

WOOSTER 70, ASHLAND 41 Ashland dropped an Ohio Cardinal Conference game to Wooster. Klaira Paramore scored 10 points to lead the Arrows, while Lauren Green chipped in nine.

KEYSTONE 56, BLACK RIVER 19 Black River lost to Keystone in Lorain County 8 action. Zoey Bungard led the Pirates with seven points.

Boys basketball

MASSILLON WASHINGTON 75, ASHLAND 70 Ashland suffered a tough loss to Massillon Washington. Luke Denbow scored a game-high 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished eight assists to pace the Arrows. Grayson Steury added 22 points and five boards.

NORWALK 74, NORTHWESTERN 69 Northwestern fell in a nonleague game to Norwalk. Alex Ciolek led the Huskies by draining five 3-pointers and scoring a team-high 25 points. Brett Alberts added 15 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Ethan Siders chipped in 13 points and seven assists.

DAVE ROHR MEMORIAL CLASSIC

KNIGHTS INVITATIONAL Led by heavyweight Travis Owen's first-place finish, Black River finished 12th out of 15 teams. Charlie Wells placed second at 175 pounds for the Pirates, while Joe Dennis finished fourth at 106.

NORTHWESTERN 94, RITTMAN 86 (2OT) Brett Alberts and Alex Ciolek were clutch when it mattered the most as Northwestern picked up a double overtime win over Rittman in a Wayne County Athletic League battle. The pair combined for 17 points in the two overtimes to lead the Huskies. Alberts capped a 34-point outburst with eight in the second OT. Alberts also dished 10 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds, finishing with a triple-double. Ciolek drained four free throws and knocked down a bucket to close out a 21-point effort. Ethan Siders finished with 15 points, including the bucket to force the second overtime. Luke Wright was also key for NW with eight points and 11 rebounds, and Brandon Barnette finished with 12.

SOUTH CENTRAL 42, PLYMOUTH 34 Isaac Blair scored a game-high 16 points to lead South Central past Plymouth in Firelands Conference action. Sam Seidel added eight points for the Trojans, while Hagen Adams chipped in seven.

WAYNEDALE 74, HILLSDALE 46 Waynedale knocked off Hillsdale in a WCAL clash. The Falcons were paced by Cole Sinnett with 16 and Caden Fickes with 10. Braylen Jarvis added seven.

ST. PAUL 37, NEW LONDON 34 New London came up just short against FC foe St. Paul. Jamil Arnold paced the Wildcats with a game-high 19 points, while Conner Byrd scored seven.

COLUMBIA 59, BLACK RIVER 48 Black River fell to Columbia in a Lorain County 8 clash. Ridge Martin scored a game-high 17 points to pace the Pirates, while John Kray added 11.

THURSDAY, 1/20

Wrestling

ASHLAND 48, MOUNT VERNON 25 Ashland improved to 16-4 in duals with a win over Mount Vernon in Ohio Cardinal Conference action. Griffin Adkins (138 pounds), Ashden Maffett (150), Angelo Seitz (165) and Brady Welch (175) all won their matches via pin for the Arrows, who won four other weight classes by forfeit.

MADISON 52, ASHLAND 32

LOUDONVILLE 70, CRESTLINE 18 Corri Vermilya led Loudonville past Mid-Buckeye Conference foe Crestline with a huge effort, posting 21 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Maddie Kline chipped in 13 points for the Redbirds, and Shalen Guilliams finished with 10.

MAPLETON 58, MONROEVILLE 29 Mapleton knocked off Monroeville in Firelands Conference action. Bailey Davis paced the Mounties with 15 points. Sara Hickey added 13 points, while Heidi Earl chipped in nine.

CRESTVIEW 35, WESTERN RESERVE 23 Crestview picked up an FC win over Western Reserve. Frankie Dinsmore led the Cougars with 11 points, while Emma Aumend added nine.

SOUTH CENTRAL 62, PLYMOUTH 31 Kendyl Beverly scored a game-high 20 points to lead South Central past FC rival Plymouth. Angela Williams added 13 points for the Trojans, and Claire Osborn chipped in 10.

WAYNEDALE 50, NORTHWESTERN 32 Northwestern dropped a Wayne County Athletic League game to Waynedale. Caydence Scale led the Huskies with 13 points and five rebounds, and Kara McKay finished with six points and five boards.

SMITHVILLE 74, HILLSDALE 36 Six different players got into the scoring act as Smithville used a balanced attack to down Hillsdale in WCAL action. The Falcons were paced by Sydney Elliott with 12 points, while Lacey Fickes scored 10.

ST. PAUL 54, NEW LONDON 33 New London fell to St. Paul in an FC battle. The Wildcats were led by Emilee Rowland (11 points) and Alyssa Henry (seven).

ASHLAND 2486, MANSFIELD SENIOR 1554 Ashland earned a dominating win over Mansfield Senior in Ohio Cardinal Conference action. Leading the Arrows were Jada Baker (201-248-449), Kelsey Baker (232-170-402), Makayla Dreibelbis (195-188-383) and Aubrie Cooke (194-166-360).

ASHLAND 2600, MANSFIELD SENIOR 2519 Ashland picked up a win over OCC rival Mansfield Senior. Pacing the Arrows were Garren Ward (239-215-454), Rex Mazzotta (186-213-399), Matthias Wood (192-200-392) and Zion Caudill (188-201-389).

SMITHVILLE 75, NORTHWESTERN 58 Smithville knocked off Northwestern in a Wayne County Athletic League battle. The Huskies were led by Brett Alberts with 18 points and Alex Ciolek with 17.
