Scoreboard: Houston County dominates Warner Robins to remain undefeated, plus more scores

One of Middle Georgia’s hottest teams dominated again Friday night when the Houston County Bears cruised to a 41-7 win over the Warner Robins Demons on the road at McConnell-Talbert Stadium.

The win, fueled by a stellar defensive performance, kept the Bears undefeated and dropped the Demons to 2-3 on the year.

“Our defense was lights out tonight, they did a great job of coming in and executing the game plan. Really proud of our defense,” said Houston County head coach Jeremy Edwards after the game.

Houston County’s offense held its own, as well, torching the Demons for 41 points. While that’s a total most teams would be happy with, the number also showed just how impressive the Bears have been — it was still their lowest score so far this year, albeit by a single point.

“It feels to good to be on a roll,” Edwards said. “The kids come in, day in and day out, and execute the game plan in practice, and they get what they deserve.”

Star quarterback AJ Hill finished 18 of 28 passing with 242 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense. Running back Ryan Taleb threw for a touchdown on a nifty trick play in the first half, then ate up many of his 126 rushing yards in the second half to ice the game.

A complete performance

The Bears dominated in the first half despite their first drive stalling. An interception gave them great field position and led to a touchdown, and a few trick plays down the stretch helped them score four times before the break. Houston County finished the first half with 230 yards of total offense.

Houston County’s defense made sure those four trips to the end zone were more than enough, completely shutting Warner Robins out in the first half. The Bears held Demons quarterback Judd Anderson to just 7 of 16 passing through the first half and sacked him twice, keeping the score at 28-0 entering the third quarter.

It looked like Warner Robins might overcome its sluggish start in the third quarter when they stopped Houston County’s opening drive, but the Demons continued to fall flat on offense. Hill’s third score blew it open and made it 34-0 after a missed two-point try.

Warner Robins got on the board on the first play of the final quarter thanks to a 45-yard touchdown pass, but it meant little in the grand scheme of the contest. The Bears scored again with about seven minutes to play, and the rest was history. Houston County came away with a 41-7 win to improve to 5-0 on the season.
