The Lexington Lady Lex picked up a nice Ohio Cardinal Conference victory over West Holmes in the first game in the new gym at Lexington High School. Lady Lex won 3-0 by scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 25-21.

Bella Temple was 21-for-21 serving with an ace and 22 assists while Ava Newdome had six blocks, Madi Basilone added 17 digs, Ava Brown collected 14 kills and Tatum Stover and Rachel Kocher had 10 kills apiece.

Lexington is now 7-2 on the year and 6-2 in the OCC.

Mansfield Senior 8, Galion 2

The Mansfield Senior Tygers picked up a solid nonconference win over Galion on Thursday winning 8-2.

Quinten DeBolt led the way with four goals and two assists while Tayshon Robinson, Justin Crall, Peyton Page and Camden DeBolt had one goal apiece. Chase Cole, Crall, Griffin DeBolt and Camryn Beauford had one assist apiece in the win. Braxton Hock preserved the victory with seven saves in goal.

The Tygers are now 3-4 on the year.

The Shelby Whippets dropped a tough nonconference contest to Vermilion on Wednesday falling 3-2.

Arizona Graszl had both goals for the Whippets.

Shelby is now 4-3-1 on the year.

Shelby 4, Galion 0

The Shelby Whippets earned a convincing 4-0 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win over Galion on Tuesday.

Arizona Graszl led the way with two goals while Brooklyn Gwirtz and Julia Sickmiller had one goal apiece. Graszl and Mary Wilkins had one assists apiece while Mackenzie Martincin collected three saves in goal to pitch the shutout.

The Whippets are now 4-2-1 and 3-0 in the MOAC with three shutouts.

Boys Soccer

Wooster 2, Madison 1

The Madison Rams gave the Wooster Generals a tough match on Tuesday evening with a 2-1 decision in favor of Wooster.

Julius Walker had the lone goal for the Rams while Kaleb Evans added an assist. Will Jamieson had 14 saves in the effort.

Madison is now 7-3 on the season.

Mansfield Christian 8, Galion 0

The Mansfield Christian Flames completely dominated a nonconference match against Galion on Tuesday winning 8-0.

Anthony Smith and Tristan Johnson had two goals apiece while Weston Neal, Isaac McFadden, Connor Loose and Peyton McFadden had one goal apiece. Everett Martin and Caleb Ricker had one assist apiece in the win.

Mansfield Christian is now 7-3 on the season.

Josalynn Patterson scored both Lex goals as Sam Morton added one assist. Lydia Schroeder had one save to preserve the shutout.

Lexington improves to 3-2-3 on the year.

Cross Country

Lexington Lady Lex wins team title, Shelby's Gonzales individual champ at Tiffin Carnival

The Lexington Lady Lex cross country team is settling into its season nicely. After winning the Ashland Cross Country Invitational last week, Lexington went to one of the biggest meets of the year at the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival and brought home a team championship scoring just 76 points finishing ahead of second-place Carroll which had 87.

Lex senior Emma Wise wrote the latest chapter of her stellar performances at Tiffin with a fifth-place finish in 19:26.5 while junior Elyana Weaver was right behind her in 11th with a 19:50.5. Freshman Brailey Slone took 15th with a time of 20:04.7 as Kenley Miller took 24th with a 20:32.3 and Maddie Haring took 26th with a 20:38.9 as the five scorers for Lady Lex. Hannah Griffin took 37th with a 21:12.9 and Anna Blackstone finished in 52nd with a 22:14.7 to round out the times for Lex.

Shelby's Kayla Gonzales was the individual champion taking first place overall with a time of 18:51.8. She paced the Whippets to a seventh-place finish as teammate Emma Montgomery took 28th with a 20:42.3, Channon Cundiff finished in 44th with a 21:42.5, Kailyn Mahon finished in 72nd with a 23:30.7 and Kailyn Schwall took 73rd with a 23:31.1 to round out the scorers for Shelby.

The Shelby boys cross country team had a nice showing in the Division II race taking second overall with 128 team points behind Carroll's 72. Huck Finnegan took third place overall with a 16:06.5 while Luke Dininger took 17th with a 16:59.0, Indy Mayer took 21st with a 17:03.6, Marshall Moore finished in 25th with a 17:15.0 and Ian Finnegan rounded out the scorers with a 62nd-place finish in 18:22.9.

In the Division I boys race, the Lexington Minutemen took 12th overall with 348 team points. They were led by Joey Aquino who took 43rd with a 16:50.0 while Chance Basilone took 48th with a 16:53.9 and Latrell Hughes took 49th with a 16:55.2 as the Top 3 runners.

In the Division III boys varsity race, Crestview's Cooper Brockway took 33rd overall with a time of 17:30.5 while Plymouth's Malachi Keefe took 160th with a 20:20.6 to round out the top Richland County runners.

In the Division III girls varsity race, Crestview's Audrey Wolford led all Richland County runners with a 23rd-place finish in 20:31.5 while teammate Leyna Gerich took 27th with a 20:43.2. Alina Durbin finished in 38th with a 21:00.8, Georgia McFarland took 67th with a 22:05.2 and Mia Humrichouser finished in 115th with a 23:11.9 as the five runners led the Cougars to a fifth-place team finish with 268 points.

Plymouth's Morgan Follett took 97th with a time of 22:41.6 as the only runner for the Big Red.

Seneca East Stars, Stripes and Lights

At the Seneca East Stars, Stripes and Lights meet on Saturday night, the Ontario Warriors performed well.

In the Division II boys race, freshman Xavier Trent took 18th overall with an 18:05.07 while sophomore Dean Morrison finished in 23rd with an 18:18.55. Clear Fork's Ben Wallis took 45th with a 19:02.25 to round out the top Richland County runners in the race.

In the Division II girls race, Ontario sophomore Baylee Black took 15th overall with a time of 21:36.08 while teammate Haley Schultz took 36th with a 23:22.29. Clear Fork's Claire Blubaugh was the top runner for the Colts taking 35th with a time of 23:18.89.

Girls Soccer

Clear Fork 7, Bishop Hartley 0

The Clear Fork Colts picked up a 7-0 win over Bishop Hartley in nonconference girls soccer action on Saturday.

Ashtyn Wine led the way with three goals and two assists while Lilly Wortman added a goal and three assists, Brinley Barnett, Jada Lamp and Melodie Blubaugh had one goal apiece and Addison Blakely and Lamp had one assist apiece. Renee Anders preserved the shutout with one save.

Clear Fork is now 6-0-2 on the year and hosts Ontario on Tuesday.

Shelby wins Sam Sabbak Invite

The Shelby girls tennis team continued its hot start to the season with a team championship at the Sam Sabbak Invitational at Bucyrus High School on Saturday.

McKenna Baker won the second singles championship for the Whippets cruising to the easy win. She beat Galion's Taylor Henry 8-1 before beating Upper Sandusky's Korie Meddings 8-3. She topped Pleasant's Katie Jordan, the No.1 seed in the bracket, 8-7 in the finals.

Zada Marquis took second in the third singles bracket falling to Pleasant's Hannah Miller in the finals 8-5. She won her first match over Clear Fork's Jordan Pfeifer 8-0 and beat Ontario's Joselyn Lehew 8-3 in the semifinals. Lehew finished third overall winning her third-place match over Galion's Kadence Fairchild 8-6.

Annie Mahek took fourth in the first singles bracket. She earned a bye in her first match before falling to Galion's Emma Ross 8-5 in the semifinals. She fell to Pleasant's Maura Murphy in the 3rd-place match.

The second doubles team of Cami Wuchich and Kayla Niese took the tournament championship in the event sweeping their way to the title. They beat Upper Sandusky's team 8-1 in the semifinals and Pleasant's 8-4 in the finals. The first doubles team of Bella Carver and Gracie May won the championship in the event as well giving Shelby the clean sweep in doubles competitions. They beat Pleasant's doubles team 8-2 in the semifinals and Ontario's doubles team 8-2 in the finals to win the championship.

Makenna Arnolt and Allie Parker had one goal apiece while Olivia Workman had one assist. Lydia Schroeder preserved the shutout with two saves in goal.

The Madison Rams picked up a convincing nonconference win over River Valley on Thursday winning 8-0.

The Rams saw eight different players score goals as Easton Mazak, Randy Jamieson, Kaleb Prosser, Gavin Cates, Joey Walker, Kaleb Evans, Julius Walker and Jacc Leo had one apiece. Brayden Rogers had two assists while Jamieson, Prosser, CJ Steffey, Tre Fava, Damien Stapleton and Carter Branham had one assist apiece. Three Rams combined for the shutout in goal as Camden Rhodes had eight saves, Will Jamieson had five and Jerry Wertz had two.

The Rams improve to 7-2 and host Wooster on Tuesday in a key OCC match.

Wednesday, Sept. 7

The Clear Fork Colts earned a solid MOAC win over Galion on Wednesday winning 5-0.

Connor Hauger scored three goals and handed out two assists contributing to all five Clear Fork goals in the victory. Bronson Frost had two goals and Jaden Beachy added two assists in the victory.

The Shelby Whippets picked up a convincing MOAC win over Marion Harding on Wednesday, 8-0.

Arizona Graszl and Reece Friend led the way with two goals apiece while Brooklyn Gwirtz, Natalie Kennard, Audi Albert and Mary Wilkins had one goal apiece. Graszl and Gwirtz handed out two assists apiece while Sara Krietemeyer and Albert had one assist apiece in the win.

Lexington tied first place in race for OCC title

The Lexington Minutemen took round 2 of the Ohio Cardinal Conference championships with a team score of 317 ahead of Mount Vernon's 326 moving into a tie with the Yellow Jackets for the overall lead with one round left.

Isaac Vance led the way with a 76 putting up the second-best individual score of the day. Troy Chapman added a 79 while Trevin Smith had an 80, Griffin Hughes added an 82 and Jack Wyant rounded out the scores with a 99.

The Madison Rams took a tough nonconference loss to Westerville Central 5-1 on Thursday.

Julius Walker scored the lone goal for the Rams while Will Jamieson had nine saves in goal.

The Clear Fork Colts earned a solid 3-1 win over Big Walnut on Thursday in nonconference action.

Ashtyn Wine led the way with two goals while Lilly Wortman added one. Annika Labaki and Brinley Barnett had one assist apiece while Renee Anders collected four saves in goal.

The Lexington Lady Lex posted its third consecutive tie with a 1-1 draw against Ashland on Thursday.

Josalynn Patterson had the lone goal with Emily Thomas added an assist in the tie. Mollie Worley had five saves as Lex is now 1-2-3.

The Shelby Whippets girls tennis team rolled to a clean Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Clear Fork on Thursday winning 5-0.

Annie Mahek took the win in first singles over Jessica Farnsworth 6-4, 7-5 while Makenna Baker earned the second singles win over Emily Montgomery 6-1, 6-1 and Zada Marquis won her third singles match over Jordan Pfeifer 6-0, 6-0.

The Shelby team of Bella Carver and Gracie May took their first doubles win over Makenna Wuertz and Mikka Knapik 6-0, 6-0 while the second doubles team of Kayla Niese and Cami Wuchich beat Alyson Brokaw and Sophie Wilson 6-0, 6-0.

The Shelby Whippets picked up an easy 9-0 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win over Pleasant on Wednesday.

Brooklyn Gwirtz and Lindsay Montgomery each recorded hat tricks while Audi Albert had two goals and Arizona Graszl had one. Albert handed out two assists while Graszl, Olivia Barnhard and Kinsley Vandine had one assist apiece. Mackenzie Martincin had two saves to record the third shutout of the season.

The Clear Fork Colts picked up a nice win over Mapleton and Fredericktown during a nonconference tri-match on Wednesday.

Baylie Salkovick led the Colts with a 43 while Sam hunt added a 45, Grace Wieikle added a 52, Katie Conrad carded a 53, Emille Greene shot a 57, Caroline Dill chipped in with a 60 and Erica Gillis rounded out the scoring with a 65.

Fredericktown's Ava Parker was the match medalist with a 42.

The Crestview Cougars picked up a nice Firelands Conference win over Western Reserve with a 176-256 advantage.

Brennan Fulk shot a 42 to lead the way while Aaron Spencer and Dylan Bruner shot matching 44s for three nice scores. Matthew Volz added a 46 while John Tackett shot a 54 and Reed Poorman added a 64.

The Clear Fork Colts picked up a nice 4-1 victory over River Valley on Monday in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference action.

Connor Hauger had a goal and two assists while Bronson Frost, Sam Swendal and Landon McCauley had one goal apiece.

Brinley Barnett and Zoe Lamp had two goals apiece while Annika Labaki and Lilly Wortman had one goal apiece in the win. Labaki, Wortman, Ashtyn Wine, Jada Lamp and Sabree Caudill had one assist apiece while Renee Anders preserved the shutout with two saves.

Gonzales impressive at Seneca East Tiger Classic

In the girls Black Division, Shelby's Kayla Gonzales took third place overall with an 18:56.80 to lead the Whippets. Lexington's Emma Wise ran a 19:31.80 to take ninth giving Richland County two in the Top 10 of a loaded race. Lexington's Brailey Slone took 17th with a 19:55.60 and teammate Elyana Weaver took 28th with a 20:34.60 and Shelby's Emma Montgomery took 34th with a 20:52.40. Lexington finished in fourth as a team in the biggest division of the meet with 134 team points. Shelby took 11th with 234.

In the boys Black Division, Shelby's Huck Finnegan took sixth overall with a time of 16:26.60 while teammate Luke Dinninger took ninth with a 16:47.50. Lexington's Joey Aquino finished in 12th with a 17:02.90 while teammate Chance Basilone took 14th with a 17:09.10. Shelby took fourth as a team with a score of 99 while Lexington finished in fifth with 128 points.

In the girls Orange Division, Crestview's Audrey Wolford was the top Richland County runner with a time of 20:42.20 to take 16th overall. Teammate Leyna Gerich took 21st with a 21:18.30. Ontario's Baylee Black was the top runner for the Warriors taking 32nd with a time of 21:50.20. The Cougars finished in 7th as a team with 186 points while Ontario took 13th with 354.

In the boys Orange Division, Ontario's Miles Meisse finished ninth overall with a time of 16:56.70 while Crestview's Cooper Brockway led the Cougars with a 22nd-place finish with a time of 17:31.80. The Warriors finished in 13th as a team with 365 points while Crestview took 20th with a 479.

In the girls White Division, Plymouth's Morgan Follett was the lone Richland County runner as she finished 52nd with a 23:39.10

In the boys White Division, Mansfield Christian's Grantham Trumpower was the lead Richland County runner taking 23rd with a time of 18:06.50. Plymouth's Colton Sundstrom took 62nd with a time of 19:27.80.

The Mansfield Christian Flames picked up a 3-1 victory over Mapleton on Saturday with scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-20.

Raegan Standridge led the way with 17 points five aces, 20 kills and seven digs while Kyleah Jones added 12 points, four aces and eight digs. Hadley Cramer chipped in with eight kills and six points while ally Shoemaker had 30 assists and five points. Rebekah Kapustar stood out defensively with 28 digs and seven points while Adelle Cramer had four blocks.

Shelby 3, Wynford 1

The Shelby Whippets picked up a nice 3-1 nonconference victory over Wynford on Saturday winning with scores of 26-24, 14-25, 26-24 and 25-20.

Natalie grove led the way with eight kills while Marleigh Albert and Madison Henkel had six apiece. Even Schwemley had three aces while Demi Hipp stood out defensively with 13 digs to go with 12 from Kendra Walp and 10 apiece from Schwelmley and Albert. Albert handed out 18 assists while Mya Seibert added 11.

Friday, Aug. 26

Boys Golf

Lexington takes third at Madison Open

The Lexington Minutemen finished third at Friday's Madison Open at Oak Tree Golf Course with a team score of 330. North Royalton took first with a 321 and Findlay took second with a 322.

Troy Chapman led the Minutemen with an 80 while Trevin Smith chipped in with an 81, Isaac Vance added an 83, Griffin Hughes carded an 86, Jackson Pigg had an 89 and Jack Wyant rounded out the scoring with a 95.

Ashland finished fourth with a 340 followed by Clear Fork (344), Madison (348) Ontario (353), Wooster (358), Elida (361), Crestview (369), Mansfield Senior (383), Bucyrus (414) and Elyria (442).

Carson Harmon of Elida took medalist honors with a 68 while David Swab of Findlay shot the second-best score with a 74.

Thursday, Aug. 25

Zoe Borowicz and Alex Collier had one goal apiece for Lex while Macy Chambers and Makenna Arnholt had one assist apiece. Mollie Worley and Lydia Schroeder had two saves apiece in goal to preserve the win.

Lexington is now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the OCC and hosts Clear Fork on Saturday.

The Crestview Cougars picked up a nice nonconference win over Huron on Thursday winning 2-1.

Emma Aumend and Baileigh Cordrey led the way with one goal apiece while Kieren McClenathan and Kylee Salser added one assist apiece. Mady Mack earned the win in goal with seven saves.

Ariana Merrell had the lone goal for the Tygers.

The Cougars improve to 1-2 and travel to Shelby on Saturday.

Luke Zerby led the way with two goals while Weston Neal and Tristan Johnson added one goal apiece. Max Hoovler and Grady Baker had one assist apiece while Griffin Baker recorded the shutout with six saves.

The Flames are now 2-1 and travel to Mount Vernon on Saturday.

The Shelby Whippets picked up a nice 3-1 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win over Pleasant on Thursday winning 3-1 by scores of 25-23, 25-12, 20-25 and 25-20.

Eve Schwemley led the way with 13 kills while Marleigh Albert had 11 and Natalie Grove and Madison Henkel had six apiece. Schwemley also took out defensively with 20 digs while Kena Lafon had 19 and Kendra Walp added 18. Albert handed out 23 assists with Mya Seibert adding 14 in the victory.

Wooster 3, Lexington 1

The Lexington Lady Lex dropped a tough Ohio Cardinal Conference match to Wooster on Thursday by scores of 15-25, 30-28, 17-25 and 23-25.

Rachel Kocher and Ava Brown had 11 kills apiece while Tatum Stover added 10 kills, Madi Basilone had 27 digs and Ava Newdome recorded seven blocks.

West Holmes 3, Madison 0

The Madison Rams took a tough Ohio Cardinal Conference loss to West Holmes on Thursday falling by scores of 23-25, 16-25 and 13-25. Cielo Jacobus led the way with 15 assists, one kill and two digs while Hope Barrett added seven kills and eight digs and Allyson Wigton rounded out the scoring with seven kills and eight digs.

Clear Fork 210, Crestview 242

The Clear Fork Colts picked up a nice win over Crestview in girls golf nonconference action Thursday inning 210-242 at Little Apple Golf Course.

Samantha Hunt was the match medalist with a 47 while Grace Weikle added a 53, Emilee Greene had a 54 and Katie Conrad and Baylie Salkovick rounded out the scoring with a pair of 56s.

Crestview was led by Kalee Hamman with a 53 while Lemmedu Snyder added a 60, Kendall Hill had a 64, Natalya Metzger carded a 65 and Sam Metz rounded out the scoring with a 72.

The Clear Fork Colts took third out of three teams at the Centerburg tri match on Wednesday.

Katie Conrad and Grace Weikle led the way for the Colts with a pair of 56s while Samantha Hunt added a 59, Baylie Salkovick carded a 61, Eric Gillis had a 66 and Caroline Dill rounded out the scores with a 68.

The Ontario Warriors picked up a key nonconference victory over Norwalk on Tuesday winning 4-3.

Carter Walters and Carter Weaver led the Warriors with a pair of goals apiece while James Steward had two assists and Zain Fulmer had one. Omar Abdelaziz picked up the win in goal with six saves.

Ontario improves to 1-1 and hosts Bay on Thursday.

Clear Fork 5, Upper Sandusky 1

The Clear Fork Colts earned a convincing victory over Upper Sandusky 5-1 in nonconference action on Tuesday.

Connor Hauger had four goals while Bo Galloway had one goal and one assist. Jaden Beachy had a pair of assists and Liam Beer rounded out the stats with an assist.

The Colts improve to 1-2 and travel to Huron on Saturday.

Lexington 8, Mansfield Senior 1

The Lexington Minutemen kicked off their quest for another Ohio Cardinal Conference championship by beating Mansfield Senior 8-1 on Tuesday.

Dylan George had four goals while Owen Smith, Zach Turlo, David Gomes and Alex Depperschmidt had one goal apiece. Depperschmidt had three assists while Jack Hiebel, Will Perkins and Luke Roberts had one assists apiece.

The Minutemen are 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in the OCC and travel to Lima Shawnee on Saturday.

The Mansfield Christian Flames picked up a 9-3 win over Mount Vernon in nonconference action on Tuesday.

Mara Bieri, Abby Little and Noelle Beare had two goals apiece while Alise McFadden, Erin Hope and Anna Tucker had one goal apiece. Hope had two assists while Calah Rader and Adrian Clary rounded out the stats with one assist apiece. Abby Heininger picked up the win in goal with one save.

The Shelby Whippets picked up a nice nonconference win over Upper Sandusky on Tuesday winning 3-2.

Marleigh Albert, Natalie Grove and Madison Henkel led the way with 12 kills apiece while Jena Lafon and Eve Schwemley had nine kills apiece in a balanced attack. Grove also added seven blocks on defense while Albert collected 22 digs to go with Demi Hipp's 18, Lafon's 17 and Kendra Walp's 16. Albert handed out 30 assists while Mya Seibert had 17.

The Ontario Warriors earned a solid MOAC win over Clear Fork in girls tennis on Tuesday, 4-1.

Clear Fork's Jessica Farnsworth gave the Colts their only victory in the match in first singles beating Elisha Burson 6-4 and 6-1. Ontario's Elisabeth Corn topped Clear Fork's Emily Montgomery 6-2, 6-4 in second singles while teammate Grace McClenathan beat Jordan Pfeifer 6-3, 6-4 in third singles.

The Ontario first doubles team of Keely and Kayla Kurtz earned a 6-0, 6-0 first doubles win over Clear Fork's Makenna Wuertz and Kikka Knapik and Ontario's second doubles team of Alaina Friend and Lizzie Criss beat Clear Fork's Alyson Brokaw and Sophia Wilson 6-1, 6-3 in second doubles.

The Lexington Lady Lex began the 2022 season with a convincing win over Perkins on Saturday winning in three sets 25-6, 25-15 and 25-16.

Bella Temple was 21-for-21 serving and scored the first 15 points of the first set to set the tone. Ava Brown was sensational in her first varsity action going 23-for-25 serving with 17 kills. Rachel Kocher was 23-for-23 serving with seven kills while Tatum Stover rounded out the hitting with six kills.

Madi Basilone collected 14 digs while Kayla Carter added 12. Ava Newdome had 10 blocks on the day.

The Shelby Whippets took a tough 3-0 nonconference loss to Willard on Saturday in their season opener.

Madison Henkel led the way with seven kills for Shelby while Marleigh Albert and Natalie Grove had five kills apiece. Eve Schwemley led the way defensively with 14 digs while Albert had eight and Mya Seibert had six. Albert handed out 24 assists in the loss.

The Plymouth Big Red picked up a 3-1 nonconference win over St. Peter's on Saturday to help them improve to 1-1 on the year.

Lexington takes third at Weiss Invite

The Lexington Minutemen took third place out of 16 teams at the Weiss Invitational at Ashland Golf Club on Thursday.

The Minutemen shot a 330 as a team finishing just behind Hobal's 314 and Walsh Jesuit's 328. Troy Chapman was the overall medalist firing a 73 for the day. Isaac Vance carded a 76 while Trevin Smith added an 81, Griffin Hughes shot a 99 and Jackson Pigg rounded out the day with a 102.

The Mansfield Christian Flames picked up a solid 9-0 win over Pleasant on Thursday in nonconference action.

Abby Little led the Flames with three goals while Calah Rader and Mara Bieri had two goals apiece and Noelle Beare and Claire Robinson chipped in with one goal apiece. Rader, Beare, Layna Chase, Meagan Them and Adiran Clary handed out one assist apiece in the balanced effort.

The Clear Fork first doubles team of Makenna Wuertz and Jordan Pfeifer took down Galion's Kiera Bainhart and Kenzie Bowman 6-4, 7-5 leaving it all up to second doubles where Galion's Zoee Regan and Taylor Henry cemented the win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alyson Brokaw and Sophia Wilson.

The Rams are now 2-0 and host Oregon Clay on Saturday.

The Clear Fork girls tennis team took a tough 4-1 loss to River Valley in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.

Jessica Farnsworth picked up the lone victory for the Colts beating Aliyah Bennett 2-6, 6-0 and 6-0 in first singles. Emily Montgomery dropped her second singles match to Shayla Pappert 1-6, 0-6 and the Colts had to forfeit the third singles match.

The team of Makenna Wuertz and Jordan Pfeifer dropped their first doubles match to Macyn Danals and Gabby Cometti 2-6, 1-6 and the second doubles team of Alyson Brokaw and Sophia Wilson fell to Addie Comstock and Amilie Young 1-6, 1-6.

Ontario's Brookylnn Adkins was the medalist for the day with a 39. Brooklynn Black helped out with a 45 while Anzaya Estep carded a 46, Delaney Moritz and Ashland Hall each shot 50s and Joslynne Frazier rounded out the scoring with a 61.

Katie Conrad led the Colts with a 50 while Samantha Hunt carded a 52, Baylie Salkovick and Emille Greene shot matching 54s, Grace Weikle and Caroline Dill had 55s and Erica Gillis rounded out the scoring with a 56.

Lexington takes 12 at loaded Kent Miller Colonial Invite

The Lexington Minutemen finished 12th out of 21 teams at the Kent Miller Colonial Invitational at Hiawatha Golf Course in Mount Vernon on Saturday. The Minutemen shot a 316 as a team with DeSales winning it with a 291.

Isaac Vance led Lex with a 75 while Trevin Smith added a 77, Troy Chapman carded a 79, Seth Reed chipped in with an 85 and Jackson Pigg rounded out the scoring with a 91. Vance posted the 18th-best score of the tournament.

Worthington Christian 1, Mansfield Christian 0

The Mansfield Christian Flames gave Worthington Christian all it could handle in their Friday Night Futbol opener during a 1-0 loss.

Griffin Baker did all he could to keep the Flames in it with 11 saves in goal. The Flames fall to 0-1 on the year and travel to Delaware Christian on Aug. 20.

Shelby 3, Hillsdale 0

The Shelby Whippets picked up a nice 3-0 nonconference win over Hillsdale on Friday.

Brooklyn Gwirtz led the Whippets with two goals while Lindsay Montgomery added one. MAry Wilkins and Arizona Graszl had one assist apiece while the defense did its part to record the shutout. Mackenzie Martincin recorded one save while the defense allowed just one shot on goal all night long.

The Whippets improve to 1-0 and travel to Norwalk on Aug. 22.

Lexington takes second in Round 1 of OCC Championships

The Ohio Cardinal Conference has switched things up in 2022. Instead of head-to-head matchups throughout the fall sports season, the OCC will conduct three OCC championship tournaments and will total scores from all three tournaments with the low team being crowned champion. The change in format was due to busing issues last season.

The Minutemen kept themselves in good position with a 329 in the first of three rounds. They are in second place behind Mount Vernon's 316. Trevin Smith carded a 76 while Isaac Vance added a 79, Troy Chapman shot an 81, Jackson Pigg added a 93, Jack Wyant, 94; and Griffin Hughes, 97.

Madison is in seventh with a 382.

Mansfield Senior in eighth with a 392. Andrew Cawrse led the Tygers with a 40-45-85 while Jake Zinner added a 44-51-95. Josh Hodapp shot a 51-52-103, Sebastian Page, 54-55-109; Korbin Benedict, 60-56-116 and Landon Nicholson, 61-61-122, rounded out the scores for the Tygers.

The second round of the three-round tournament is Sept. 1 at Shelby Crossing with the final round on Sept. 22 at Mohican Hills.

The Clear Fork Colts picked up a nonconference girls tennis win over Orrville on Thursday winning 3-2.

Senior Jessica Farnsworth beat Arora Chaney 6-1, 6-2 in first singles while Emily Montgomery took care of Cuylee Troyer 6-4, 7-5 in second singles. The Colts made it a clean sweep in the singles competitions when Jordan Pfeifer beat Genna Miller 6-1, 6-2 in third singles.

The first doubles team of Makenna Wuertz and Sophia Wilson battled hard in first doubles but fell to Addison Christine and Broylie Rickly 6-1, 6-1. The Colts had to forfeit the second doubles match.

Lexington Lady Lex wins loaded Edison Invitational

Lady Lex picked up a huge early-season team win on Wednesday winning the 24-team Edison Invitational on Wednesday with a solid team score of 336.

Trynity Wolfe led Lex with a 76 while Hannah Smith added a 77, Maddy Hager carded a 90, Darcie Reinhart chipped in with a 93, Emily Asher had a 121 and Willon Roberts rounded out the scoring with a 123.

Boys Golf

Lex takes second at Galion Invite

The Lexington Minutemen finished in second place as a team at Wednesday's Galion Invitational at Valley View Golf Course. The Minutemen posted a team score of 319, 17 strokes back of Galion, which won the team title.

Trevin Smith, Isaac Vance and Troy Chapman led Lex with a trio of 78s while Jackson Pigg added an 85, Jack Wyant carded a 93 and Griffin Rondy shot a 97.

Galion's Nick McMullen was the overall medalist with a 73 while teammate Logan Keller shot a 75.

Ontario finished in third with a team score of 347 while Clear Fork took fifth with a 361 and Madison took eighth with a 367.

The Clear Fork Colts took a tough nonconference loss to Orrville on Monday falling 4-1.

Jessica Farnsworth gave the Colts their only win on the day in first singles knocking off Kayla Polscak 6-4, 6-2.

Emily Montgomery put up a fight in second singles falling 6-1, 6-3 and Jordan Pfeifer battled hard in third singles ultimately falling 6-4, 7-5.

Lexington takes 9th at Polar Bear Invite

The Lexington Minutemen boys golf team took to Shady Hollow Country Club to square off with some of the best golf teams in the state on Monday and came out in decent shape. The Minutemen took ninth out of 18 teams in an absolutely loaded field.

Trevin Smith led Led with a 76 while Troy Chapman fired an 81, Isaac Vance carded an 83, Jack Wyant chipped in with a 96, Griffin Hughes had a 98 and Seth Reed rounded out the scores with a 101. Akron Hoban won the tournament with a team score of 189.

The Lexington girls golf team took seventh out of 20 teams at the Yellow Jacket Invite at White Pines Golf Club in Perrysburg with a team scored of 348.

Hannah Smith led the way with an 81 while Trynity Wolfe carded an 85, Maddy Hager shot an 88, Darcie Reinhart chipped in with a 94, Lauryn Nupen added a 118 and Willow Roberts rounded out the scoring with a 128.

The Lexington Lady Lex girls golf team started the season with a strong showing at the Lady Panther Invitational at Blacklick Woods Golf Club in Pickerington. Lex shot a 382 taking 13th out of 18 teams in the A Flight of the tournament.

Hannah Smith led the team with an 81 and placed 23rd out of 85 golfers. Trynity Wolfe carded a 94 while Maddy Hager added a 97, Darcie Reinhart shot a 110 and Lauryn Nupen rounded out the scoring with a 116.
