SATURDAY, 1/29

Girls basketball

CRESTVIEW 64, MONROEVILLE 34 Crestview clinched the outright Firelands Conference championship with a win over Monroeville. Emma Aumend paced the Cougars with a game-high 18 points. Frankie Dinsmore added 13 points, Anna McFarland 12 and Mary Leeper nine.

MAPLETON 52, ST. PAUL 26 Mapleton improved to 9-3 in FC play with a win over St. Paul. The nine conference wins are its most in a season since winning 12 during the 1998-99 season. Sara Hickey scored 13 points to lead the Mounties. Holly Earl and Heidi Earl both added 11 points.

SOUTH CENTRAL 47, WESTERN RESERVE 39 Kendyl Beverly scored a game-high 21 points as South Central downed Western Reserve in FC play. Claire Osborn added 11 points for the Trojans.

BLACK RIVER 45, WELLINGTON 38 Zoey Bungard scored a game-high 21 points to lead Black River past Lorain County 8 foe Wellington. Riley Kubitz chipped in 12 points for the Pirates.

MANSFIELD SENIOR 49, ASHLAND 45 Ashland outscored Mansfield Senior 22-12 in the fourth quarter but came up just short in Ohio Cardinal Conference action. Makaree Chapman led the Arrows with 15 points, while Klaira Paramore added eight.

Wrestling

THUNDERBIRD INVITATIONAL Crestview finished 10th out of 43 teams. Hayden Kuhn finished second at 132 pounds to lead the Cougars. Caleb Cunningham placed third at 215, while Kage Briggs (138) and Connor Morse (157) both finished sixth.

CENTRAL CHRISTIAN 41, LOUDONVILLE 29 Loudonville fell to Central Christian in Mid-Buckeye Conference action. Isaac Gessner led the Redbirds with 11 points and Zach Frankford finished with 10.

WEST HOLMES 42, ASHLAND 29 Ashland fell to West Holmes in Ohio Cardinal Conference action. Makaree Chapman paced the Arrows with 10 points, while Audra McBride added eight.

MANSFIELD CHRISTIAN 54, SOUTH CENTRAL 44 South Central dropped a nonleague game to Mansfield Christian. Kendyl Beverly led the Trojans with 16 points. Grace Lamoreaux added 15, and Angela Williams chipped in nine.

CHIPPEWA 60, NORTHWESTERN 43 Northwestern lost to Chippewa in a Wayne County Athletic League battle. Caydence Scale scored 12 points and Kara McKay had 10 points and six rebounds for the Huskies.

WEDNESDAY, 1/26

Boys bowling

ASHLAND 3115, MOUNT VERNON 2654 Ashland rolled a school-record 3115 series in a win over Mount Vernon in Ohio Cardinal Conference action. The Arrows also bowled their best regular-season Baker game (298) in school history. Pacing Ashland were Zion Caudill (258-199-457), Matthias Wood (233-224-457), Garren Ward (235-209-444) and Brayden Long (222-203-425).

Girls basketball

LOUDONVILLE 67, EAST KNOX 54 Corri Vermilya and Shalen Guilliams hold the keys to Loudonville’s postseason success, and they showed why in a win over East Knox. The talented do-everything Vermilya clipped the 30-point mark for the fifth time this season with a game-high 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Guilliams was locked in from the perimeter, finishing with four 3-pointers and 21 points while dishing a career-high 10 assists.

BLACK RIVER 47, CLEARVIEW 41 Riley Kubitz scored a game-high 19 points to lead Black River past Clearview in a Lorain County 8 battle. Lilly Stief and Kiersten Hendershot both added eight points for the Pirates.

Girls bowling

ASHLAND 2344, MOUNT VERNON 1890 Ashland used a team effort to beat OCC foe Mount Vernon. Leading the Arrows were Jada Baker (220-187-407), Kelsey Baker (189-178-367), Aubrie Cooke (149-194-343), Makayla Dreibelbis (173-169-342) and Emma Barger (172-169-341).

MAPLETON 42, NEW LONDON 29 Mapleton knocked off New London in a Firelands Conference battle. Sara Hickey scored 14 points to pace the Mounties, while Heidi Earl added 11. Emilee Rowland paced the Wildcats with a game-high 15 points.
