The Mansfield Senior Tygers picked up a momentum-building win over Madison on Saturday 55-45 to close out the regular season.

Maurice Ware led the Tygers with 19 points while Jakob Legron scored seven, Kyevi Roane collected six, Malachi Johnson added five, Karion Lindsey chopped in with four and Myles Bradley, Brock Hill, Ja’Ontay O’Bryant, Nathan Haney, Connor Nicholson, Elias Owens and Kincade Gibson rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Jayden Jeffries led the Rams with 19 points while Levi Zehner added 10, Isaac Brooks had seven, Cayden Clapper and Carson Garrett scored three apiece, Tatum Turcott chipped in with two and Aiden Balas rounded out the scoring with one.

Mansfield Senior improves to 5-15 and takes on Galion at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Bucyrus in the Division II sectional semifinals. Madison falls to 11-10 and plays Bowling Green at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Rossford in the Division I sectional tournament.

Plymouth 59, New London 55

The Plymouth Big Red escaped a Firelands Conference win over New London on Saturday night, 59-55.

Josh Beebe and Clayton Miller led the way with 20 points apiece while Zeth Goth had five, Trace McVey and Ethan Gillum added four apiece and Owen Reynolds and Flint Ratliff rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

The Big Red end the regular season with an 18-4 record and take on Sandusky St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the sectional semifinals.

The Lucas Cubs closed out the regular season with a nice 53-47 win over Mount Gilead on Friday night.

Logan Toms led all scorers with 20 points while Corbin Toms added 15, Andrew Smollen scored nine, Ty Lehnhart had seven and Andrew Fanello rounded out the scoring with two.

The Cubs improve to 18-4 and will play the winner of Plymouth and Sandusky St. Mary’s Central Catholic on Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Shelby.

The Lucas Cubs picked up a nice win on senior night topping Clear Fork 62-38 on Tuesday night in nonconference action.

Logan Toms led the way with 19 points for the Cubs while Ty Lehnhart added 12, Corbin Toms scored nine, Andrew Smollen collected seven, Hunter Church chipped in with five, Andre Fanello had three, Payton Sturts and Zach Diehl added two apiece and Jimmy Hignite rounded out the scoring with one.

The Cubs improve to 17-4 and travel to Mount Gilead. Clear Fork falls to 0-21 and travels to Highland on Friday.

The Lucas Cubs pulled off an impressive upset knocking off Crestview 43-42 on Saturday in nonconference action.

Shelby Grover led the Cubs with 20 points while Tori Sauder added nine, Kylea Foss added six and Ryan Culler, Marissa Caugherty, Maddie Boyer and Olivia Brown rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Skylar Ramsey led the Cougars with 13 points while Anna McFarland had 11, Emma Aumend scored eight, Frankie Dinsmore and Mary Leeper chipped in with four apiece and Georgia McFarland rounded out the scoring with two.

The Cubs improve to 11-11 and take on Mohawk at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Shelby in the Division IV sectional semifinals. Crestview falls to 16-4 and plays the winner of Edison and Wynford at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Division III sectional championship.

The Mansfield Senior Tygers picked up a nice win on Saturday in nonconference action topping Andrews Osborne Academy 51-20.

Kiyah Wentz led the way with 13 points while Ahmani Mitchell scored 11, Kiersetn Bradley had 10, Moentta Hilory chipped win with nine and Annaleise Norris and Juleah Windham rounded out the scoring with four apiece.

The Tygers improve to 14-7 winning the most games in a regular season since they Tygers went 19-1 in 2002-03.

Colonel Crawford 49, Ontario 39

The Colonel Crawford Eagles picked up a 49-39 win over Ontario in nonconference action on Saturday night.

Carter Valentine led the Eagles with 19 points while Mason Studer added 15, Braxton Baker had 10, Jacob Maddy and Nolan McKibben chipped in with two apiece and Derek Horsley rounded out the scoring with one.

Darian Delbrugge led the Warriors with 16 points while Carter Weaver added 10, Braxton Hall had nine and Josh Young and Alex Rathburn rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

The Eagles improve to 20-0 and travels to Seneca East on Monday. Ontario falls to 8-13 and travels to Shelby on Friday.

The Shelby Whippets put on a dominant performance on Saturday night topping Upper Sandusky 81-58 in nonconference action.

Bryson Baker had a breakout performance with 21 points to lead the Whippets while Alex Bruskotter added 17, Marshall Shepherd scored 11, Issaiah Ramsey collected 10, Max Hess had six, Jeremey Holloway and Andre Hill chipped in with five apiece and Carson Brubaker, Isaiah Roub and Gavin Bishop rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

The Whippets improve to 17-3 and host Ontario on Friday.

The Lucas Cubs dominated the Plymouth Big Red on Saturday night winning 66-36 in nonconference action.

After going into halftime tied at 25, the Cubs came out and scored 43 points in the second half and held the Big Red to just 13.

Logan Toms led all scorers with 24 points while Ty Lehnhart added 17, Andrew Smollen had nine, Andrew Fanello chipped in with seven, Corbin Tomes scored five and Hunter Church and Patrick Bichsel rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Plymouth was led by Layne Bushey with nine points while Josh Beebe added seven, Clayton Miller, Owen Reynolds and Zeth Goth had five apiece, Carson Tucker and Trace McVey chipped in with two apiece and Canaan Slone rounded out the scoring with one.

The Madison Rams picked up a program-boosting win over Wooster on Thursday night winning 57-51 in Ohio Cardinal Conference play.

Faith Kuhn had a huge game with a career-high 37 points while Alexsia Davis added 11, Savannah Rachel had six, Brianna Bowels chipped in with two and Breonna Reese rounded out the scoring with one.

The Rams improve to 10-11 and head into the tournament where they will take on Wapakoneta at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Division I sectional semifinals.

The Clear Fork Colts picked up a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win in their final game of the regular season by knocking off Highland 44-33.

Bekah Conrad led the way with 14 points while Lilly Wortman added 12, Annika Labaki had 10, Pacey Chrastina and Kylie Belcher chipped in with three apiece and Lilian Weikle rounded out the scoring with two points.

The Colts improve to 18-4 and take on Clyde at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Willard in the Division II sectional semifinals.

Juleah Windham had a career day with 16 points and 14 rebounds while Dazey Manns added 13 points, Kiersten Bradley had 11 points and six rebounds, Kiyah Wentz collected eight points, Ahmani Mitchell and Annaleise Norris scored four apiece and Monetta Hilory rounded out the scoring with three. Norris had 11 rebounds and five steals and Mitchell led the team with five assists.

The Big Red improved to 2-18 and travels to Mapleton on Saturday.

The Ontario Warriors picked up an impressive win over Colonel Crawford on Tuesday night in nonconference action, 57-49.

The Tygers fall to 4-13 and have now lost eight straight. They will look to end that losing streak on Friday when they host Madison.

Faith Kuhn led the way for Madison with 23 points and 13 rebounds while Chloe Ebeling had six points and 10 boards, Alexsia Davis and Savanna Rachel scored five points apiece and Natalee Back rounded out the scoring with two.

Mansfield Senior was led by Monetta Hilory with a career-high 20 points while Ahmani Mitchell had seven, Kiersten Bradley scored five, Juleah Windham and Dazey Manns chipped in with three apiece and Annaliese Norris rounded out the scoring with two.

The Clear Fork Colts lost a heartbreaker to Pleasant on Thursday night falling 79-78 in four overtimes.

The Crestview Cougars ended their five-game losing streak with an emphatic 73-39 win over Plymouth in Firealnds Conference action on Friday night.

Owen Barker led the way with 18 points while Heath Kash added 12, Jarek Ringler had 11, Adison Reymer scored nine, Sam Wells collected six, Mason Ringler and Brennan Fulk scored five apiece, Austin Wells chipped in with three and Mason Baith and Noah Stuart rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Owen Reynolds led the Big Red with 13 points while Layne Bushey added 12, Clayton Miller had nine, Colton Sundstorm chipped in with four and Trace McVey rounded out the scoring with one.

Kiyah Wentz had a career day with a new career-best 22 points while Kiersten Bradley added 11, Monetta Hilory and Ahmani Mitchell scored eight apiece, Annaleise Norris had three and Ja'Niya Hudgens rounded out the scoring with two.

Manfield Senior improves to 9-4 and travels to Oak Harbor on Tuesday.

The Crestview Cougars picked up another easy Firelands Conference win this time over Plymouth 40-28 on Thursday night.

Aubrynn Maiyer and Anna Sparks shared game-high scoring honors with 11 points while Alexis Rippel added 10, Noelle Beare and Raegan Standridge scored five apiece, Abby Little had four and Eve Johnson, Rabekah Kapustar and Ally Shoemaker rounded out the scoring with two apiece. Sparks also collected seven rebounds and six assists while Standridge had nine boards.

The Madison Rams picked up a solid nonconference win over Orrville on Tuesday night on the road, 62-50.

Jayden Jeffries led all scorers with 22 points while Isaac Brooks added 15, Levi Zehner had 10, Tatum Turcott scored eight, Cayden Clapper chipped in with five and Ethan Spillman rounded out the scoring with two.

The Rams improve to 8-5 and host Lexington on Tuesday.

The Shelby Whippets took a tough nonconference loss to Wooster on Tuesday night falling 63-55.

Alex Bruskotter led all scorers with 23 points while Jeremy Holloway added 11, Andre Hill had nine, Marshall Shepherd scored six, Issaiah Ramsey chipped in with four and Bryson Baker rounded out the scoring with two.

Jeremy Holloway added eight points while Issaiah Ramsey and Bryson Baker scored four apiece, Marshall Shepherd had three and Max Hess rounded out the scoring with two.

Luke Denbow led all scorers with 32 for Ashland while Grayson Steury and Luke Jerjevic added 12 points apiece, Keslar Bates chipped in with seven and Kamden Mowry rounded out the scoring with four.

The Madison Rams bounced back after a sluggish game against Wooster to knock off West Holmes 57-38 on Saturday night in OCC play.

The Lexington Minutemen picked up an easy nonconference win over Clear Fork on Saturday night, 50-24.

Caden Eichler led the way with 12 points while Elijah Hudson, Hudson Moore and Baden Forup scored 10 points apiece putting four players in double figures for the Minutemen. Jaxx Lamp, Alex Depperschmidt, Jack Depperschmidt and AJ Young rounded out the scoring with two points apiece in the win.

Clear Fork was led by Logan Richmond with six points while Victor Skoog added five, Kaden Riddle and Adam Vanausdle had four apiece, Caleb Detmer scored three and Jaden Beachy rounded out the scoring with two.

The Mansfield Senior Tygers couldn't quite complete the comeback falling to Sandusky 68-65 on Saturday night in nonconference action.

Maurice Ware led the Tygers with 20 points while Kyevi Roane added 18, Brock Hill chipped in with eight, Ja'Ontay O'Bryant had seven and Nathan Haney and Ahmaan Thomas rounded out the scoring with six apiece. Ware had a monster double-double with 24 rebounds to go with his 20 points. The Tygers committed 30 turnovers in the loss.

Mansfield Senior falls to 4-6 and travels to Wooster on Friday.

The St. Peter's Spartans dropped a tough nonconference contest to Mohawk on Saturday night falling 76-27.

Shelby's Olivia Baker led all scorers with 20 points while Haylee Baker and Sophie Niese added 10 points apiece, Demi Hipp scored seven, Audi Albert and Mallary Gundrum had five apiece, Sophia Long and Alexis Booker scored four apiece, Trinity Baker chipped in with three and Jena Lafon, Eve Schwemley, Aleigh Thauvette and Charlie Niese rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Lizzie Hamler led the way with 13 points while Lexi Blasberg added 11, Cora Palmer scored nine, Madi Basilone had eight, Kaitlyn Delano-Goodman chipped in with four and Alli Reed and Allie Parker rounded out the scoring with two apiece. Lex recorded 36 steals in the win as Basilone had 10, Halmer had eight and Blasberg had six.

Lucas, who was without leading scorer Shelby Grover, saw Tori Sauder and Maddie Boyer lead the way with two points apiece and Kylea Foss add one.

The Shelby Whippets dominated the battle between the Top 2 teams in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference on Thursday night beating the Clear Fork colts 78-48.

Sophie Niese led Shelby with 20 points while Audi Albert had 18 and Haylee Baker scored 16 to put three Whippets in double figures. Mallary Gundrum and Olivia Baker added seven points apiece while Sarah Rieser had five, Alexis Booker added three and Trinity Baker rounded out the scoring with two.

Kiersten Bradley pumped in a career-high 25 points including four 3-pointers to lead the way for the Tygers. Kiyah Wentz got going offensively with 16 points while Annaleise Norris had six, Monetta Hilory and Ahmani Mitchell scored five apiece and Dazey Manns and Juleah Windham rounded out the scoring with two apiece. Norris pulled down 14 rebounds in the win.

The Tygers improve to 8-4 and travel to Wooster on Jan. 8.

Mansfield Christian 70, South Central 28

The Mansfield Christian Flames avenged a tournament loss to South Central last season by topping the Trojans 70-28 during the Wayne Roller Holiday Showcase.

Five Flames reached double-figures on the night as Abby Little led all scorers with 18 points, Aubrynn Maiyer and Alexis Rippel scored 12 apiece and Anna Sparks and Kyleah Jones rounded out the scoring with 11 apiece. Rebekah Kapustar, Raegan Standridge and Courtney Kissinger rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

Maiyer also handed out seven assists while Rippel had five. Sparks pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Flames improve to 5-2 and host Cristo Rey on Thursday.

The Rams led 15-5 after the first quarter and never gave up the lead. Anna McFarland led the way with 18 points while Emma Aumend added 15 to give the Cougars two players in double figures. Mary Leeper added nine while Georgia McFarland had six and Peyton Collins rounded out the scoring with three.

The Cougars improve to 5-3 and travel to South Central on Saturday.

Mansfield Senior 50, Sandusky 43 OT

The Mansfield Senior Tygers picked up a nice nonconference win over Sandusky 50-43 in overtime on Tuesday.

Monetta Hilory led the way with 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and six steals while Kiersten Bradley added 12 points and 10 rebounds for a huge double-double to go along with five assists, Kiyah Wentz scored nine, Ahmani Mitchell had seven, Annaleise Norris chipped in with four points and nine rebounds and Juleah Windham rounded out the scoring with two.

The win makes Mansfield Senior 3-4 on the season.

The Lexington Minutemen went on the road and picked up thrilling double-overtime victory over New Philadelphia on Saturday night winning 51-49.

Baden Forup led the Minutemen with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Caden Eichler added nine points, Hudson Moore collected eight, Elijah Hudson had seven, Jack Depperschmidt collected six, Alex Depperschmidt chipped in with two and Gage Potter rounded out the scoring with one.

The Minutemen remain undefeated at 5-0 and host Shelby on Tuesday.

The Shelby Whippets dominated with a 77-40 win over Galion on Saturday night in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Plymouth wins Clear Fork Invite

The Plymouth Big Red won their second tournament of the early season dominating the Clear Fork Invite on Saturday.

In all, 11 Big Red wrestlers place during the tournament and had two grapplers take home individual championships. Shae Sparks won the 150-pound weight class while Andrew Miller won at 126. Sparks is now 11-0 on the season and Miller comes in at 10-1. Jacob Robinson took second at 157, Colton Sparks took second at 175 and Gabe Cox also took second at 190. Nick Roberts (120) and Cam Wagers (113) took third while Zach Miller (144) took fifth, Noah Robinson (285) took sicth, Gunner Huston (215) took seventh and Hunter McClure (165) rounded out the placers at eighth.

"This was a total team effort and I am proud of all the kids," Plymouth coach Jeremiah Balkin said. "Shae dominated his weight class and Andrew has been wrestling well this year. Jacob Robinson had his first loss of the season in the finals, but he has been a great leader and having a fine year. Colton Sparks lost to the projected state champ from West Jefferson in the finals but has dominated the rest of his matches this year. Cam Wagers beat a Loudonville kid in the finals that was a state alternate last year. Nick Roberts came back through after an injury and had a wonderful match in the finals to place third.

"Going into the finals round, we were underdogs in a lot of our matches, but the kids kept feeding off each other and stood up to the challenge. I am proud of the hard work and teamwork we have shown in this young year. Starting out 2-0 in duals and winning our first two tournaments is a great start to the season."

The Shelby Whippets rolled to an impressive 48-31 win over Pleasant on Thursday night in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Olivia Baker led the way with 20 points including six threes as she tied the program's career record for made 3-pointers with 142. Mallary Gundrum and Haylee Baker added eight points apiece while Audi Albert scored four, Alexis Booker, Sophia Long and Trinity Baker scored two apiece and Sophie Niese rounded out the scoring with one.

Niese handed out nine assists while Haylee Baker led the team with five rebounds.

The Whippets improve to 3-0 on the year and host Marion Harding on Saturday.

Mount Vernon 46, Mansfield Senior 43

The Mansfield Senior Tygers took a tough 46-43 loss to Mount Vernon in Ohio Cardinal Conference play on Thursday night.

Monetta Hilory led the way with 15 points while Kiyah Wentz added 10, Kiersten Bradley scored seven, Juleah Windham had five and Ahmani Mitchell and Annaleise Norris rounded out the scoring with three points apiece.

The Tygers fall to 1-2 on the year and host Wooster on Monday.

The Clear Fork Colts dropped a tough Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference game to River Valley 56-49 on Thursday night.

Bekah Conrad led the way with 17 points while Lilly Wortman added 10, Trinity Cook scored seven, Pacey Chrastina collected five, Lyvia Davis chipped in with four and Annika Labaki and Kylie Belcher rounded out the scoring with three apiece.

The Colts fall to 3-1 on the year and host Galion on Saturday.

The Ontario Warriors dropped their MOAC opener to Highland 49-34 on Thursday night.

Rylee Nigh led the way with 10 points for Ontario while Lauren Sexton added seven, Maddie Henderson scored six, Lizzie Nagel collected four, Alyssa Taylor had three, Olivia Kreger chipped in with two and Madi Dahlberg rounded out the scoring with one.

Madison Rams earn defensive win over Lexington

The Madison Rams won a defensive battle on Wednesday night picking up an Ohio Cardinal Conference win over Lexington 30-29.

Faith Kuhn led the way with 11 points for Madison while Natalee Back added six, Breonnah Reece had five, Alexsia Davis scored three, Chloe Ebeling and Savannah Grey chipped in with two apiece and Savanna Rachel rounded out the scoring with one.

Madi Basilone led Lexington with 10 points while Kaitlyn Delano-Goodman added eight, Lizzie Hamler and Cora Palmer scored three apiece, Allie Reed and Kaleigh Leadbetter chipped in with two apiece and Lexi Blasberg rounded out the scoring with one.

Madison improves to 2-1 on the year and travels to Danville on Tuesday. Lexington falls to 0-4 and travels to Willard on Tuesday.

The Madison Rams invaded Clear Fork and came away with a 54-35 nonconference win on Tuesday night.

Jayden Jeffries led the Rams with 11 points while Isaac Brooks chipped in with 10, Levi Zehner and Carson Garrett scored eight apiece, Zane Wynn collected seven, Cayden Clapper had four and Corbin Herr, Tatum Turcott and Aiden Balas rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

The Colts were led by Kaden Riddle with nine points while Beau Dornbirer added eight, Caleb Dettmer scored seven, Kaleb Hollar collected five, Adam Vanausdle had four and Logan Anderson rounded out the scoring with one.

The Rams improve to 1-1 on the season and host Oregon Clay on Saturday. Clear Fork is 0-2 and travels to River Valley on Friday.

Seneca East 58, Plymouth 57 OT

The Plymouth Big Red took a tough overtime loss to Seneca East on Tuesday night falling 58-57.

Josh Beebe and Zeth Goth led a balanced effort with 12 points while Clayton Miller added 11 and Gaven Oakley collected 10 giving the Big Red four players in double figures. Owen Reynolds chipped in with six and Trace McVey rounded out the scoring with four.

The Big Red falls to 1-1 on the year and travels to Crestview on Friday night.

Crestview 65, Temple Christian 29

The Crestview Cougars kicked off the 2021-22 campaign with a 65-29 win over Temple Christian on Tuesday night.

Owen Barker led all scorers with 18 points while Jarek Ringler added 11, Sam Wells had 10, Heath Kash collected eight, Mason Ringler scored six, Austin Wells and Noah Stuart chipped in with four apiece and Mason Baith and Karter Kissel rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Nate Groff led the Crusaders with 10 points while Landon Snade scored eight, Ian Snade added six, Colton Adkins chipped in with four and Zane Hoover rounded out the scoring with one.

The Cougars start the year 1-0 and host Plymouth on Friday night.

The Madison Rams took home a defensive win over Crestview on Monday night knocking off the Cougars 36-27 in nonconference play.

Flames use balance to win season opener

Saturday, Nov. 27

Girls Basketball

Mansfield Christian 51, New London 18

The Mansfield Christian Flames kicked off the 2021-22 season with a balanced 51-18 win over New London on Saturday.

Alexis Rippel and Anna Sparks led the way with 12 points apiece while Aubrynn Maiyer added nine, Raegan Standridge had eight, Abby Little and Kyleah Jones scored four apiece and Noelle Beare rounded out the scoring with two. Sparks also added nine rebounds and Beare collected four steals. The Flames had 15 assists as a team with 29 rebounds.

The Flames improve to 1-0 on the year and host Lucas on Saturday.

Hillsdale 62, Lucas 61

The Lucas Cubs dropped a tough one to Hillsdale on Saturday afternoon thanks to a buzzer-beater and a 62-61 final.

Shelby Grover led the way for Lucas with 29 points while Tori Sauder chipped in with 20, Kylea Foss added seven, Marissa Caugherty and Sydnee Blackledge scored two apiece and Olivia Brown rounded out the scoring with one point.

The Cubs fall to 1-3 on the year and host Loudonville on Tuesday.

Ashland 61, Lexington 57

The Lexington Lady Lex dropped their Ohio Cardinal Conference opener on Saturday falling to Ashland 61-57.

Kaitlyn Delano-Goodman led Lady Lex with 14 points and nine rebounds while Madi Basilone added 12 points, Lizzie Hamler scored 11 and Cora Palmer chipped in with 10 giving Lady Lex four players in double-figures. Kaleigh Ledbetter led the team with 13 boards. Allie Parker scored six points while Leadbetter added three and Claire Vallance rounded out the scoring with one. Hamler also added eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Lex falls to 0-3 on the year and travels to Madison on Thursday.

Boys Basketball

Black River 57, Mansfield Christian 56

The Flames took a tough loss to start the season at Black River on Saturday falling 57-56.

Amarr Davis led the way with 20 points while Braden Loose added 11, Bryce Courser had eight, Billy Killian collected seven, Davis Wushinske and Isaac Vance scored four apiece and Gabe Westfield rounded out the scoring with two.

The Flames fall to 0-1 on the year and travel to Central Christian on Friday.

Boys Basketball

Shelby 78, Madison 60

The Shelby Whippets looked impressive in the fourth quarter of their 78-60 win over the Madison Rams on opening night.

Shelby was led by Alex Bruskotter with 30 points while Marshall Shepherd added 16 and Andre Hill scored 14 to give the Whippets three players in double-figures. Issaiah Ramsey chipped in with eight while Jeremy Holloway added six and Max Hess rounded out the scoring with four.

Madison's Jayden Jeffries scored 26 to lead the Rams while Isaac Brooks added 16, Levi Zehner had seven, Cayden Clapper scored six, Carson Harrett added three and Tatum Turcott rounded out the scoring with two.

Shelby starts the season off 1-0 and hosts Pleasant on Friday night while Madison falls to 0-1 and travels to Clear Fork on Tuesday.

Lexington 51, Clear Fork 25

The Lexington Minutemen looked to be in mid-season form in their season-opening 51-25 win over Clear Fork on Friday night.

The Minutemen defense held the Colts to just 25 points and only allowed one double-digit scoring quarter and held Clear Fork to just seven made field goals all night. Meanwhile, the Lex offense shot the lights out connecting on 25-of-50 attempts for a 50% shooting night.

Caden Eichler led the way with 16 points for the Minutemen while also adding six steals. Hudson Moore added nine points and four rebounds while Baden Forup and Elijah Hudson scored seven points apiece, Jack Depperschmidt added five and Tyler Jackson and Jaxx Lamp rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Adam VanAusdle and Beau Dornbirer scored eight points apiece for the Colts while Kaden Riddle scored four, Kaleb Holler added three and Caleb Detmer rounded out the scoring with two.

The Minutemen improved to 1-0 on the year and travel to Ashland on Friday while Clear Fork falls to 0-1 and hosts Madison on Tuesday.

Plymouth 51, Buckeye Central 41

The Plymouth Big Red came away with a 51-41 win over Buckeye Central on opening night of the 2021-22 season.

Zeth Goth led the Big Red with 19 points while Clayton Miller added nine, Owen Reynolds and Gaven Oakley scored seven apiece, Trace McVey had five and Josh Beebe and Nick Cole rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Aiden McDougal led Buckeye Central with 12 points while Tyler Sanderson chipped in with 10, Alex Kanney added eight, Drew Rose and Steven Sostakowski scored six apiece, Damian Dean added three and Manny Mullins rounded out the scoring with two.

The Big Red start the season off 1-0 and hosts Seneca East on Tuesday night.

Huron 56, Ontario 26

The Ontario Warriors took a tough loss in their season opener on the road to Huron, 56-26.

Alex Rathburn led the way with 13 points while Carter Weaver had eight and Gage Weaver rounded out the scoring with five.

The Warriors fall to 0-1 and travel to Highland on Friday night.

South Central 73, St. Peter's 21

The St. Peter's Spartans took one on the chin on Friday night in the season-opener falling to South Central 73-21.

Feree Kent led the way with nine points while Angelo Gasper scored seven and Johntae Wilson added five.

Kayden Hauler led South Central with 20 points including five 3-pointers while Kark Ferber added 13, Isaac Blair and Hagen Adams scored 12 apiece, Sam Seidel chipped in with eight, Brandon Mitchell had four and Gunner Ray and Eric Sanders rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

The Spartans fall to 0-1 on the year and travel to Loudonville on Friday night.

Girls Basketball

Lucas 46, Black River 42

The Lucas Cubs picked up their first win of the season knocking off Black River 46-42 on Friday night.

Shelby Grover led the way with 22 points for the Cubs while Marissa Caugherty added nine, Kylea Foss had five, Tori Sauder added four and Maddie Boyer, Zoey Baker and Sydnee Blackledge scored two apiece.

The Cubs improve to 1-2 and travel to Hillsdale on Saturday.

Smithville 55, Ontario 37

The Ontario Warriors dropped a tough nonconference contest to Smithville on Friday night, 55-37.

Taylor Counts and Lauren Sexton led the way with eight points apiece while Rylee Night had five, Olivia Kreger, Lizzie Nagel and Maddie Henderson added four apiece and Alyssa Taylor and Laprina Young rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

The Warriors fall to 1-1 on the year and hosts Highland on Thursday.

Shelby senior Olivia Baker had a record-setting night in a 70-27 win over Ashland.

She scored 26 points and connected on eight 3-pointers for a new single-game record as she helped the Whippets cruise to a season-opening win. Haylee Baker and Sophie Niese added 12 points apiece as the Big 3 were responsible for 50 points on the night. Alexis Booker added seven points while Audi Albert scored I've and Demi Hipp, Mallary Gundrum, Jena Lafon and Alegha Thauvette scored two apiece to round out the scoring.

Niese nearly posted a triple-double adding eight rebounds and eight assists to go with five steals on the evening.

The Whippets start the season off 1-0 and host Margaretta on Monday.

Mansfield Senior 52, Columbus East 15

The Mansfield Senior Tygers tipped off the 2021-22 season in style with a dominating 52-15 win over Columbus East on the road Tuesday night.

Kiersten Bradley led the way with 23 points as she scored 21 in the first half. Monetta Hilor added nine points and nine assists while Juleah Windham and Annaleise Norris scored six apiece, Ahmani Mitchell had four and Kiyah Wentz and Ja'Niya Hudgens rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

The Tygers improve to 1-0 on the year and host Mount Vernon on Dec. 2.

Clear Fork 48, Madison 21

The Clear Fork Colts cruised to a 48-21 nonconference win over Madison on Tuesday night.

Bekah Conrad led the way with 18 points while Lilly Wortman scored 11, Kylie Belcher added six, Lilian Weikle added five, Trinity Cook and Annika Labaki scored three apiece and Pacey Chrastina rounded out the scoring with two.

The Lucas Cubs fell to 0-2 on the season after suffering a 47-40 loss to South Central on Tuesday night.

Shelby Grover erupted for 28 points while Rylie Lane, Tori Sauder, Mariss Caugherty, Kylea Foss, Sydnee Blackledge and Olivia Brown scored two points apiece.

The Cubs are back at it on Friday at Black River.

Colonel Crawford 57, Plymouth 34

The Plymouth Big Red dropped their third game to start the season falling to Colonel Crawford 57-34 on Tuesday night in nonconference action.

Jaylin Branham and Erin Stevens led the way with 14 points apiece while Emma Hall and Sarah Hoak added three points apiece to round out the scoring.

Plymouth is now 0-3 and hosts Crestview on Dec. 2.

Buckeye Central 63, Crestview 16

The Crestview Cougars managed just 16 points in a 63-16 loss to Buckeye Central on Tuesday night.

The Cougars fall to 0-2 on the year and travel to Madison on Monday.
