PLAIN TWP. – A new scoreboard is coming to Bob Commings Field on GlenOak High School's campus.

The Plain Local school board on Thursday approved acquiring the new scoreboard for up to $344,230. The scoreboard will replace the existing one that is 15 years old.

Superintendent Brent May said the new scoreboard will enable the district to sell more advertisements, which will help pay for its cost. The district will use money from its main operating fund to pay for the scoreboard.

Paving coming to Oakwood parking lots, staffing changes approved

In other business, the school board:

  • Authorized $330,000 to pave the parking areas around Oakwood Middle School. May said a primary area to be paved is a lot that is behind the left-field fence of the baseball diamond.

  • Approved a new five-year contract for Kathy Jordan, longtime district treasurer and chief financial officer, effective Aug. 1. Terms of the new contract were not immediately available.

  • Hired Debbie Ciesielczyk as assistant treasurer under a one-year contract, and approved a two-year contract for assistant transportation clerk Vickie Scarpino.

  • Accepted the resignation of Oakwood Assistant Principal Chad Merritt, who will become principal of Fairless High School in August.

  • Accepted the resignations of Amy Saylor, district psychologist, effective June 30; and Jennifer Ammond, fifth-grade math teacher; Skylar Bunish, kindergarten teacher at Middlebranch, Hannah Louk, first-grade teacher at Barr Elementary, Lacey Marinaro, seventh-grade language arts teacher; Lori Nolte, Warstler fourth-grade language arts and science teacher, Brianna Rymer, GlenOak science teacher, all effective June 1.

  • Hired Michael Campbell as a Spanish teacher at Oakwood and GlenOak and Sydney Rowlands as a sophomore geometry teacher, both effective Aug. 12.

  • Accepted the resignations of bus driver Awilda Rivera, retroactive to April 7; GlenOak secretary Pat Schaffer, effective June 30; Warstler head cook Lori Wise, effective June 1, and Oakwood head cook Cindy Yoho, effective June 1.

The board's next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. May 10 at GlenOak High School.
