SATURDAY, 5/28

Boys track & field

DIVISION II YOUNGSTOWN REGIONAL Northwestern's Jacob Wakefield just missed qualifying for state in the high jump, finishing fifth with a jump of 6-feet-1. Other locals scoring points were NW's Weston Arthur in the 400 meters (seventh, 51.60) and Black River's Andon O'Neal in the 300 hurdles (seventh, 41.68).

FRIDAY, 5/27

DIVISION III CHILLICOTHE REGIONAL Crestview won its second consecutive regional championship, advancing numerous athletes to state in the process. The Cougars finished with 66.5 points to narrowly edge second-place Mount Gilead (65). South Central finished fifth with 31 points. Tommy O'Neill led the way by finishing second in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best and unofficial school-record time of 4:24.51 to advance to state. The senior also ran a leg on the state-qualifying 4x400 relay, which finished third in 3:27.16. Other members of the relay were Caden Cunningham, Gabe Smedley and Everett Smith. Wade Bolin and Noah Stuart both advanced to state in the shot put by placing second (50-feet-9½) and third (49-0), respectively. Bolin also anchored the state-qualifying 4x100 relay, which placed fourth in 44.45. Joining the sophomore on the relay were Connor Morse, Adison Reymer and Tanner Moore, who also finished eighth in the high jump (5-10). South Central had two relays advance to state. The 4x200 relay of Carson Music, Parker Gray, Isaac Blair and Trey Beverly finished first in a school-record time of 1:31.66. The quartet also finished second in the 4x400 relay in a program-best time of 3:27.16. Music and Beverly both also advanced to state in the 400, finishing second (49.71) and fourth (50.53), respectively. New London's Tyler Twining advanced to state by placing fourth in the 800 in 1:58.14. Brayden Shupp placed eighth in the shot put (45-1) for the Wildcats.

DIVISION III PERRY REGIONAL Mapleton's Isaik Schoch was the lone area athlete to score points, finishing eighth in the 3,200 in 10:11.27.

Girls track & field

DIVISION III PERRY REGIONAL Loudonville's Corri Vermilya and Sydney Polen both qualified for state in two events to lead the way for area athletes at the regional meet in Massillon. Polen finished third in the long jump with a leap of 16-5¼, while Vermilya placed fourth in the 300 hurdles in 47.70. Both also ran a leg on the fourth-place 4x200 relay (1:47.46), teaming up with Kenzie Cutlip and Anna Templeman to qualify for state. Tess Shultz just missed qualifying for state in the 1,600, finishing fifth in 5:26.89. Mapleton's Jillian Carrick advanced to state in the 100 by placing third in 12.71. The senior also just missed making state in two other events, finishing fifth in the pole vault (9-0) and anchoring the fifth-place 4x100 relay (51.22). The Mounties also had two athletes advance to state in the long jump. Bella Tabler won the event with a jump of 16-6¼, while Madison Bailey finished second (16-5½).

DIVISION III PORT CLINTON REGIONAL South Central's Angela Williams qualified for state in two events at the regional meet in Port Clinton. The sophomore finished second in the long jump with a jump of 16-10¼ and finished fourth in the 200 in 26.62. SC's Onalee Keysor advanced to state in the pole vault by placing fourth with a school-record vault of 10-8. Crestview's Morgan Welch punched her ticket to state in the 1,600 by finishing third in a school-record time of 5:11.45. New London's Reese Landis advanced to state by placing second in the 3,200 in 11:13.86. SC's Grace Lamoreaux finished sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.28), failing to qualify for state.

THURSDAY, 5/26

Boys track & field

DIVISION II YOUNGSTOWN REGIONAL Two locals earned a top-eight prelims time to advance to Saturday's finals. Black River's Andon O'Neal advanced in the 300-meter hurdles by finishing seventh in 41.07 seconds, while Northwestern's Weston Arthur moved on in the 400 by placing eighth in 51.64. In two finals events, NW's Nolan Hartsel finished 10th in pole vault and BR's 4x800 placed 11th, as both failed to qualify for state.

WEDNESDAY, 5/25

Boys track & field

DIVISION III CHILLICOTHE REGIONAL Crestview advanced to state in three events on the first day of regionals. Wade Bolin punched his ticket by winning the discus with a throw of 165-feet-5. The 4x800 relay of Tommy O'Neill, Logan Friges, Cooper Brockway and Gabe Smedley advanced by finishing second in 8:12.68. Shawn Bailey moved on by finishing tied for third in the pole vault with a vault of 13-8. Noah Stuart (fifth in discus, 149-2) and Caden Cunningham (sixth in long jump, 20-5½) both just missed out on qualifying for state. Advancing to Friday's finals were the 4x200 relay (sixth in prelims, 1:34.21) of Connor Morse, Everett Smith, Smedley and Cunningham, the 4x100 relay (second, 44.19) of Morse, Tanner Moore, Bolin and Smith and the 4x400 relay (second, 3:30.51) of Cunningham, O'Neill, Smedley and Smith. Advancing to the finals for South Central were the 4x200 relay (third, 1:32.74) of Carson Music, Parker Gray, Isaac Blair and Trey Beverly, the 4x400 relay (third, 3:31.49) of Music, Gray, Blair and Beverly, and Music (second, 49.28) and Beverly (fourth, 50.32) in the 400. New London's 4x800 relay finished 11th, failing to qualify for state.

DIVISION I FINDLAY REGIONAL Ashland's 4x100 relay of Bryant Hosse, Bryce Mendenhall, Kadin Schmitz and Colton Johnson advanced to Friday's finals with the second-fastest prelim time (42.51 seconds).

DIVISION III PERRY REGIONAL Mapleton's 4x800 relay finished eighth, failing to qualify for state.

Girls track & field

DIVISION III PORT CLINTON REGIONAL New London's Kaitlyn Gum advanced to state in the shot put for the second consecutive year by winning the event with a heave of 40-3¾. South Central's Claire Osborn also advanced to state in the event, finishing fourth with a throw of 38-1. Advancing to Friday's finals for the Trojans were Angela Williams in the 200 (sixth in prelims, 26.67) and Gracelyn Lamoreaux in the 100 hurdles (eighth, 16.79).

DIVISION III PERRY REGIONAL Northwestern freshman Emily Thompson advanced to state by finishing third in the shot put with a toss of 37-3¼. NW's Jule Stoller just missed making state in the high jump, finishing fifth with a jump of 5-0. Advancing to Friday's finals for Loudonville were Corri Vermilya in the 110 hurdles (sixth in prelims, 48.82) and the 4x200 relay (fifth, 1:49.03) of Kenzie Cutlip, Vermilya, Anna Templeman and Sydney Polen. Loudonville's 4x800 relay finished seventh, failing to qualify for state. Advancing to the finals for Mapleton were Jillian Carrick in the 100 (third, 12.89) and the 4x100 relay (fifth, 50.65) of Jayden Carrick, Madison Bailey, Bella Tabler and Jillian Carrick.

DIVISION I FINDLAY REGIONAL Ashland's Aveline Wilhelm finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 36-1, failing to qualify for state.

Baseball

SOUTH CENTRAL 10, HARDIN NORTHERN 0 South Central rolled to a five-inning Division IV district semifinal win over Hardin Northern. The Trojans advanced to play Plymouth in a district final at 5 p.m. Friday at Galion's Heise Park. Karl Ferber slashed two hits, including a home run, knocked in three runs and scored three runs to lead SC. Brandon Mitchell (three RBIs), Sam Seidel (three runs scored) and Aaron Hauler all added two hits. Eric Sanders drove in two runs, and he also tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts.
