In this week’s “Processing Blue” podcast, host Langston Wertz Jr. talks to Charlotte Observer sports columnist about the Carolina Panthers’ woeful 1-7 start. The two talk about general manager Scott Fitterer and head coach Frank Reich and whether either, neither or both of them are in danger of losing their respective jobs following the 2023 season in Carolina continues to bottom out in the standings. This podcast episode also focuses on Bryce Young, including both his two pick-6 interceptions in Sunday’s 27-13 loss to Indianapolis and his meager stats compared to Houston quarterback CJ Stroud so far, who is also a rookie and was selected No. 2 overall after Young went No. 1.

Wertz and Fowler also discuss the logistics of the Panthers’ short week — the team plays at the Chicago Bears on at 8:15 p.m. Thursday in its second and final prime-time game of the season. Chicago (2-7) isn’t much better than Carolina, so the Panthers will have a chance. Chicago’s starting QB is in question, but Carolina will likely be without its star pass rusher Brian Burns (concussion, elbow).

Wertz and Fowler also discuss the controversial penalty called on Carolina safety Xavier Woods Sunday, as well as how to watch Thursday night’s game if you don’t have Amazon Prime (the game vs. the Bears will be on in Charlotte locally on WSOC-Channel 9, The Charlotte Observer’s news partner).
