Scott Jarvis was inducted into the Dover-Phila Bowling Hall of Fame during a banquet Friday at Ricardo’s Restaurant and Banquet Hall in New Philadelphia.

Jarvis was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service.

Zachary Schupbach received recognition for the Don Maurer Star of Tomorrow Award. He was also awarded a $500 scholarship from the Dover-New Philadelphia USBC Association.

Jarvis has been involved in bowling all his life. He was born into a bowling family and is still active in the sport.

At the age of 6, he bowled in the inaugural Adult-Youth Tournament (1979) with “Ducky” Deem. He competed in the Mini-Prep Division and bowled a 139 series.

He bowled as a prep youth with an average of 131 and moved into the junior-major division with a high average of 161. He continued bowling in the Adult-Youth Tournaments as the “adult” where he coached partners such as TJ Geers, Nathan Geers, Sydney Keith and Michael Anderson.

In 1990, when he was 17 years old, he began bowling as an adult in the Class B League and finished with a 190 average. He also began his out-of-town tournament participation at this time.

Jarvis bowled in many ABC National tournaments in places such as Corpus Christi and Las Vegas. He bowls in Moose National tournaments. He bowled in the Peterson Classic in Chicago for many years.

As a 10-year-old, Jarvis worked at the desk at the bowling center on Sundays. After two years, he approached Boulevard Lanes owner Stan Schupbach and said, “I need a promotion."

Schupbach took him to the back where he began learning the equipment. Jarvis took training courses on how the equipment ran and how to make repairs. He received certification on the machines at the age of 16.

Jarvis shares his knowledge on the machines by teaching new employees the safe way to work and repair them. He is also known by other centers as “the guy to call” if they have a problem. He has spent time at other houses, such as Atwood Lanes and Valie Lanes in Jewett teaching their employees and repairing their equipment.

Jarvis purchased Boulevard Lanes from his parents four years ago. He has continued their work and implemented some ideas of his own. He started high school bowling and last year there were three schools that called Boulevard their home center. One of those schools won the conference title this past year. He has hosted OHSAA tournaments.

Jarvis has a special interest in youth bowling. He spends one-on-one time with bowlers to improve their game. This year, 24 youths went to the Pepsi tournament and 17 of them advanced to state.

Jarvis has sponsored several leagues and teams through his Tae Kwon Do and through Boulevard Lanes. He has served on the Men’s board of Directors and now the merged Association Board of Directors

Within all the time coaching and teaching, Jarvis remains an active bowler. He has had nine 300 games and three 800 series and several 299 games. His first 300 was March 18, 1993. His 855 series remains third high in the house records.

Schupbach carried 199 average

Schupbach has been bowling in the Dover-New Philadelphia Youth for 12 years. His high games have been 246 (Nov. 2021), 233 (Dec. 2021) and 234 (March 2022). His high series have been 443, 410 and 432 for a two-game series. On March 1 he bowled a 592 series for a three-game series. His high school average was 193 for the 2022 high school season.

He attends New Philadelphia High School and will graduate this month. He has attended Kent State Tuscarawas for one year, taking college credit plus classes.
