Scott Mardi Gras parade will roll earlier than scheduled

SCOTT, La. (KLFY) — If you were planning on seeing the Mardi Gras parade in Scott on Saturday, you’ll need to get there a bit earlier than planned.

The starting time of the parade has been changed, from 11 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, in an attempt to avoid heavy rain in the forecast, according to a post on the Scott Business Association’s Facebook page.

“This will hopefully allow us to miss the heavier rains predicted at this time,” the post read.

Streets on the parade route will close at 9 a.m. Saturday. Organizers said the parade route will be unchanged.

The roads closed include Apollo Road to Cameron Street to the roundabout, and then Frontage Road to Park West Drive and St. Mary Drive to Delhomme Road. Scott Mayor Jan-Scott Richard said the parade lineup will start on Apollo this year.

“Where they set up in regard to the lineup of the floats has changed,” Richard said. “Our Chief of Police Chad Leger thought it would be better to line them up on Apollo and go straight down Apollo Road, heading north into the route.”

Richard said there will also be less floats than last year.

“We have 30 floats this year,” Richard said. “It’s down a hair, but 30 floats will be enough. We figure probably an hour and a half to two hours is a typical parade route for us here”.

Richard advises parade goers to be aware of others and leave the drama at home.

“We gotta be cognizant of everyone around us and remember that safety is first and that just go out and have a good time,” Richard said. “Just make sure it’s clean fun, if it’s not something that you would want to witness or you want your kids to witness, we encourage you to refrain from doing so.”

Richard advises parade goers to bring rain gear and arrive early to give yourself enough time to prepare.
