Scott officials working 2nd HAZMAT accident

SCOTT, La. (KLFY) – The Scott Fire Department is on the scene of another overturned 18-wheeler.

According to Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier, firefighters were called to a major vehicle accident in the 3600 block of Landry Road.

On arrival, firefighters found a tractor transporting a box trailer transporting 55-
gallon drums and totes of flammable liquid overturned. Lafayette Fire Department Haz-Mat Unit was requested to assist.

After an assessment of the damage to the trailer, no chemicals were leaking, however LFDHMRT personnel confirmed that the 55-gallon drums and totes of flammable liquid would have to removed before the trailer could be right sized by a tow company. Equipment is in route the scene to begin the remove the containers. The roadway will remain closed throughout the duration and people are asked to avoid the area.

The driver was able to escape the vehicle without injury.

This is the second overturned vehicle carrying hazardous materials authorities have dealt with as a previous accident happed Monday morning near Heide Circle.
