Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham's status for the upcoming game at Virginia is questionable with his status being described as day-to-day, according to Cardinals head coach Scott Satterfield.

Satterfield said Tuesday during his weekly press conference he wasn't sure what the medical staff called Cunningham's injury, but he phrased it as "probably concussion-like symptoms."

Whether or not Cunningham plays will be determined by what the doctors say.

During Louisville football’s first drive of the third quarter, Boston College linebacker Jalyn Blackwell was ejected for targeting after a helmet-to-helmet collision with Cunningham. The Cardinals’ QB left the game for one play then returned for a drive that ended with a 48-yard field goal from James Turner. At that point the Cardinals led 26-21.

Satterfield said Cunningham was evaluated during the play he missed and was cleared to return. He did not return after that drive, though.

"It was the next hit, I didn't even see it. I was told Malik can't go," Satterfield said.

The Alabama native "took two shots" at some point during Saturday's game against Boston College, Satterfield said.

Two series later, backup quarterback Brock Domann entered the game and Cunningham was taken to the locker room. He ended the day with 186 yards and a touchdown on 19-for-28 passing with 62 yards and three first-half TDs on 15 carries. Once he was gone, the Cardinals didn’t score again and gave up six points as Boston College earned its first ACC win 34-33. The Cardinals (2-3) fell to 0-3 in ACC play this season.

After the game, Satterfield said both Cunningham and running back Tiyon Evans, who went down in the first half, had sustained injuries. Evans suffered an injury to his lower leg, Satterfield revealed, but didn’t divulge the nature of Cunningham’s injury or if his exit was related to the hit he sustained. He described it as “undisclosed” and said Cunningham would be evaluated upon return to Louisville.

For a second straight year, Cunningham is Louisville's leading rusher with 457 yards and nine scores on 71 totes in addition to throwing for 968 yards and three TDs, completing 62.2% of his passes so far this season.
