Scott Satterfield takes Cincinnati football job: How Louisville fans, media are reacting

Did anyone spit out their coffee this morning?
Louisville football fans can't be blamed if they made a mess in the kitchen. Head coach Scott Satterfield is departing in a shocking move to take over the Cincinnati Bearcats according to reports that came out as everyone was grabbing coffee on their way to work.
The move to one of the hottest Group of 5 programs — and from a Power 5 team, no less, albeit Cincy will be joining the Big 12 soon — that also happens to be one of the Cardinals' oldest rivals and that they'll play in two weeks in the Fenway Bowl is sure to raise some eyebrows.
It also adds the Cardinals to the latest round of college football's musical coaching chairs and will kickstart a search for a new coach. It will be Josh Heird's second high-profile hire since taking over as interim almost a year ago.

Lateral move for him, downgrade for Cincinnati

Does he coach both teams in the Wasabi Bowl?

Now the incredibly awkward part: Louisville plays Cincinnati in the Wasabi Bowl. Might be best if Satterfield watches on TV from home rather than attend.

Just when you thought athletics couldn't get any more disrupted and dysfunctional at U of L, your football coach defects to your bowl game opponent. Fast becoming an epic Hold My Beer Year.

Is Brohm top choice? Can he say no a second time?

Without a contract extension or a victory over arch-rival Kentucky, Scott Satterfield was probably wise to seek a new situation. Can’t blame a guy for leaving if he didn’t feel wanted.

Explain why he deserved an extension BEFORE this class comes in? No wins over UK. 25-24 record. Josh was right in not doing so. He had two years left. See how it goes with this class then make the move on an extension.

IMO, Scott Satterfield never even wanted to be at U of L. I mean, the guy secretly went to Bowling Green to interview with South Carolina after saying he wouldn't talk to any schools – and then apologized for it after. He's always been wishy-washy. Cards are better without him.

Cincinnati and Louisville are very similar jobs. Fan bases have high expectations (sometimes unreasonable), metro universities, and both recruit from the same pool. Scott Satterfield was an odd fit at Louisville. Strange hire by Cincinnati.

Leaving to coach a team you’re about to play in a bowl game is one of the biggest slaps in the face I think I’ve ever seen in sportshttps://t.co/wOpZJaDIsF

UC just downgraded from Fickell to Satterfield and we didn’t have to pay him to leave. There’s no question which fan base is happier right now.
