Scottie Scheffler headlines list of golfers who missed the cut at the 2022 PGA Championship
TULSA, Okla. – The cut line was every bit the attention grabber in Friday’s second round of the PGA Championship as was the first page of the leaderboard.
The winds whipping off the Oklahoma plains weren’t as ferocious as feared but strong enough to help bounce the projected cut line up and down most of the day as players yearned for par at Southern Hills Country Club.
In the calm of the end of the round, the cut fell at 4-over 144. The top 70 plus ties made it through to the weekend.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler does not. But four-time Wanamaker Trophy winner and 15-time major champion Tiger Woods does.
Woods, who won the 2007 PGA Championship here, grinded his way to the weekend on his bad right leg and birdied two of his final six holes to move from one shot outside the cutline to one shot below. His 69 left him at 3 over.
“Coming back here to a place that I’ve had success on, to play against the best players in the world, that’s what we all want to be able to do,” Woods said. “Fortunately enough, I’m able to somehow do it. I’ve had a great staff that have put Humpty Dumpty back together, and we’ll go out there tomorrow, and hopefully tomorrow I can do something like what Bubba did today.”
Bubba Watson shot 63 in the second round. With rounds of 70-72, Shane Lowry extended the longest active streak of cuts made in major to 12. Will Zalatoris leads after two rounds.
However, here are those who were less fortunate and headed home.
Scottie Scheffler
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler rolled into Southern Hills with four wins since February, including the Masters, and tied for 15th in last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson. And he told the assembled media that Southern Hills was one of his favorite courses he’s ever played, if not his favorite. And then his two days here were a tail of two woeful nines.

In his opening-round 71 – his first round over par in two months – he made four bogeys in his last seven holes on the back nine. In his second round 75, he made two bogeys and a double bogey in the last five holes on the front nine after starting on the 10th. Scheffler scrambled throughout his 36 holes – he made just three birdies and an eagle against nine bogeys and a double bogey – and missed his first cut since the fall.
John Daly
After creating early buzz in the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club, John Daly was at it again this week. Resembling Santa Claus – check the beard and the belly – and turning an allowed golf cart into his green sled, the 1999 PGA champ and 1995 Open winner was 2 under through eight holes in the first round. He shot a respectable 72 despite four bogeys in his last five holes. And then he went to play slots in a casino, just as he did in 2007.

Daly was inside the cutline for much of the second round but an inward nine of 5-over-par 40, which included a double on the seventh, did him in. Daly last made the cut in the PGA in 2012.
Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay’s woes in major championships continued at Southern Hills as the reigning FedEx Cup winner and PGA Tour Player of the Year now has just two top 10s in 18 starts in the game’s four biggest tournaments.

Cantlay made six bogeys in his first 13 holes in the first round en route to a 6-over-par 76. He had no answer starting the second round as he turned in 4-over 39 en route to a 75. The usually steady, accurate Cantlay made just two birdies over 36 holes and 13 bogeys.
Dustin Johnson
The recently married, former world No. 1 and two-time major champion missed his second consecutive cut in the PGA Championship. Battling putting problems for the most part, Johnson has not won on the PGA Tour since his authoritative romp in the November Masters of 2020.

Johnson and all his firepower made just one birdie in his first-round 73 and made just three birdie in his second-round 73.
Adam Scott
The 2013 Masters champion was considered a threat this week because of his career-long ball-striking skills that have been among the game’s best. But a disastrous snowman on the par-4 17th in his opening-round 77 proved too much to overcome. He made a gallant effort in the second round but instead of needing two more birdies on his final seven holes, he made two bogeys and shot 70.

Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia seemed to have the tools to handle Southern Hills Country Club. The 2017 Masters champion is both accurate and long with driver in hand and remains one of the game’s best ball strikers.

But he made just three birdies in 36 holes. After making double on his second hole of the tournament, he made right back with two birdies and then ripped off 11 consecutive pars. But he finished his first-round 73 with three consecutive bogeys, then made five more in his second-round 74. Garcia has not won since the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship.
