Scottsdale's Barrett-Jackson Postpones January Auction

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Barrett-Jackson's ever popular car auction won't be happening in January due to the coronavirus.

The Scottsdale-Based car company announced it will reschedule its January 2021 Scottsdale Auction to the week of March 22, 2021, which will take place at WestWorld of Scottsdale. Exact dates have not yet been announced.

Craig Jackson, the chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, said in a news release that the decision to postpone was made out of an abundance of caution amid a spike in coronavirus cases. Arizona reported 6,983 new cases and 91 additional deaths from the virus Friday, with the bulk coming from Maricopa County.

“While every indication showed that our bidders, consignors and sponsors were behind our efforts to hold our auction next month, we decided it would be prudent at this time to safeguard everyone’s health,” Jackson said. “We determined that moving our event to March 2021 seemed like the right thing to do to avoid the coronavirus spike that is currently being predicted."

The October auction went on with plenty of safety precautions in place and was broadcast across the A+E networks so car fans could watch from the comfort of their homes. But Jackson said the "uncertainty" of the virus made decision to postpone a necessary one.

Collectible cars, like two late-model Ford GTs and one of the last remaining 1965 Shelby GT350s, will now be auctioned off in March.

Current ticket holders can have their tickets transferred to the new event dates. Full refunds will be also available.

“This is truly an unprecedented challenge in our country’s history, and one we take very seriously,” Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson, said in a statement. “Our decision to delay the auction was made to protect the public’s safety and health. Our consignors have been very supportive, and we already have a fantastic docket of collector cars shaping up for the March auction."
