SHEBOYGAN - A Sept. 29 concert by country music entertainer Scotty McCreery will kick off a weekend of fall activities and country music benefiting mental health and addiction recovery in Sheboygan County.

The weekend, titled Fallooza, will be presented by the Plymouth Advancement Association.

McCreery’s concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts.

Tickets to McCreery's show are on sale at weillcenter.com, by phone at 920-208-3243 or at the door at 826 N. Eighth St., Sheboygan.

Weill Center said the show is expected to sell out, so people should to buy tickets early.

McCreery is an Academy of Country Music and CMT award-winning singer/songwriter who has sold more than 4 million albums and has achieved four consecutive No. 1 hits: “Five More Minutes,” “In Between,” “This is It” and “You Time.” After winning American Idol in 2011, McCreery made music history with his album “Clear as Day” by becoming the first country music artist and youngest male artist of any musical genre to debut their first album at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200 albums chart.

Free youth and family resource fair set for May 15: A free youth and family resource fair that will have bilingual support will be held by Sheboygan United from 1:30 until 4 p.m. May 15 at St. Clement Catholic Church’s Dominican Hall, 522 New York Ave., Sheboygan.

The event will include more than 15 resource tables and attendees will be able to find youth opportunities, connect with food assistance, get a COVID-19 vaccination and find legal advice.

Participating groups will include Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan County Department of Public Health, Hispanics for School Choice, RAYS, UW-Extension Positive Youth Development/4-H, Partners for Community Development, Safe Harbor, Girl Scouts, Lakeshore Technical College, Lakeshore United Football Club, Rainbow Kids, INSPIRE Sheboygan County, Sheboygan Youth Symphony, Know Your Rights – Birdsall Obear and Associates, RCS Empowers, Above & Beyond Children’s Museum, Sheboygan Head Start, Sheboygan County Food Bank, United Way Community Partnership for Children, and Theatre for Young Audiences.

Help Stamp Out Hunger: The National Association of Letter Carriers will conduct its annual national food drive, Stamp Out Hunger, May 14.

To participate, people can leave a donation of non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes before the delivery of the mail on May 14.

Letter carriers will collect the donations that day as they deliver mail. The donations will then be distributed to local food banks, pantries, shelters and churches.

Donations from Sheboygan’s post office go to Sheboygan County Food Bank and then get distributed throughout its emergency food network of partner food pantries, community meal sites, shelters and other organizations.

Items currently most needed by Sheboygan County Food Bank are peanut butter, canned soup, canned tuna/chicken, cereal/oatmeal, canned fruit and personal care items.

Sheboygan Bike to Work Week events planned: The Sheboygan Active Transportation Committee is organizing a series of events for National Bike to Work Week May 16-22.

Beginning May 16, Paradigm Coffee and Music will sponsor an “Energy and Resource Station” in the St. Clair Avenue Uptown Parklet, where coffee and treats will be provided along with resources to educate and encourage people to get around safely outside of a car. The resource stations will run from 6 to 10 a.m. Mondays-Thursdays, rain or shine.

May 19, the committee will host a Bike/Walk/Roll-in movie in the parklet, open to all community members. Re-Bike, a volunteer organization that has donated more than 1,000 refurbished bikes to community members, will be in attendance providing free bicycles to any community member in need. The bike giveaway will begin at 6 p.m., with the movie beginning as outdoor lighting permits. If the weather is bad, the movie and giveaway will be inside Paradigm.

May 20, the committee is partnering with the community advocacy group Active8 to host “Taco ‘Bout Biking 2.0” at 3 Sheeps Brewing Company. The casual happy hour will run 4-6 p.m. and is a place to connect with others to talk about the amenities, challenges and opportunities to improve biking access for transportation and recreation throughout the city and its parks.

The week will culminate with a Bike Expo in the parklet, hosted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21. The Bike Expo will feature resources, local vendors, bike and gear demos (including electric bicycles), and a look at new buses acquired by Shoreline Metro, with demonstrations and information about how to pair active transportation with transit. Community members with custom, classic or otherwise interesting bicycles are also encouraged to participate.

Habitat for Humanity Lakeside completes sixth home: Habitat for Humanity Lakeside celebrated the completion of its sixth home on Erie Avenue in the Gateway neighborhood on April 26 with a dedication ceremony and house tour.

This completed a project started more than a decade ago when the City of Sheboygan made a point of overhauling this part of the Erie Corridor.

Habitat for Humanity Lakeside has completed 47 homes for low- to moderate-income families throughout Sheboygan County since the affiliate was established in 1993. The nonprofit serves as the general contractor for the construction or renovation of the home, and once complete, provides an affordable mortgage to the home buyer. The new homeowners benefit from receiving simple and affordable housing.

Habitat Lakeside will break ground soon in the 1500 block of South Ninth Street for the first of its next three home builds. It will also hold information sessions for interested home buyers in early June. More info: habitatlakeside.com/home-buyer-program.

Glacial Lakes Conservancy plans annual fundraiser: Glacial Lakes Conservancy will hold its annual fundraiser, “On the Conservation Trail,” from 4 to 8 p.m. June 11 at Camp Evelyn.

The event will include auctions, hikes, food, music and keynote speaker Jim Snitgen from Oneida Nation.

The event is open to the public with tickets, which are $110 each, available for purchase in advance. They can be ordered online at glaciallakes.org.

GLC is a non-profit land conservation organization serving Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Calumet, Fond du Lac and Kewaunee counties. In Sheboygan, it owns and manages the Willow Creek Preserve, which is 143 acres of undeveloped land west of Taylor Drive, between Indiana Avenue and Erie Avenue.
