Scout from New Ringgold earns Eagle

Oct. 8—Zac Yenser, of New Ringgold, received the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor held Sunday at West Penn Fire Company.

Since joining scouting in 2013, Zac has held numerous leadership positions within the troop. He has earned a variety of merit badges, including wilderness survival, first aid and emergency preparedness. To date, he has earned 32 merit badges, 10 of which will allow him to earn his gold palm.

Zac's Eagle Scout project culminated in the installation of a playground at Blue Mountain Community Church in Palmerton. He began with the creation of supply and material lists, then led the church's Elevate Youth Group in assisting with leveling the ground area and laying down landscape fabric. After all the components were put together and set in place, mulch was spread throughout the entire play area. He also helped the church fundraise for the project with a walking taco sale.

Schuylkill County commissioners Chairman Barron L. "Boots" Hetherington was among several of those who made presentations at the court of honor. Zac also received dozens of congratulatory letters and certificates sent by other government officials and dignitaries who were unable to attend.

A sophomore at Tamaqua Area High School, Zac is enrolled in honors classes and is an honor roll student. He enjoys high school varsity athletics, participates in soccer and track and has served as a junior firefighter for West Penn Fire Company, New Ringgold, for the last two years. Once he graduates from Tamaqua, Zac plans to attend Penn State University to study elementary education. He lives with his parents, Amie and Brian Yenser, and with his 13-year-old brother, Jake, at their home in New Ringgold.

At the court of honor, Zac thanked his family and the Scout leaders of Troop 755 for their guidance throughout his Scouting career. Chartered in 1950, Troop 755 is one of the oldest Boy Scout troops in Schuylkill County, and Zac is the 61st Scout to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. More information about the troop can be found on its Facebook page, Clamtown Troop 755.
