Scranton School District unveils plans for school closures

Oct. 18—SCRANTON — John Adams, William Prescott and Charles Sumner elementary schools would close under a plan presented to the Scranton School Board tonight.

Starting in the 2022-23 school year, Adams students would attend Neil Armstrong Elementary. Sumner students would be divided between Isaac Tripp and Frances Willard elementary schools.

In 2024-25, Prescott students would move to Robert Morris Elementary, and the Electric City Academy would relocate to the Sumner building.

More than 50 people are at the meeting tonight at West Scranton Intermediate School.

The district's recovery plan calls for evaluating facilities based on enrollment projections and education program needs. As of last week, the district had 9,260 students, and building capacity was about 64% in elementary schools.
