WORCESTER – The one-story brick building off Park Avenue where drivers have turned into for 50 years to spiff up their cars was flattened last month after ScrubaDub embarked on a major rebuild of the location.

The Natick-based chain tore down its 9,781-square-foot building at 575 Park Ave. to make way for a larger facility, with a car wash tunnel highlighted by a glass wall that gives passersby a look at the operation. Services will be also upgraded, including a self-serve vacuum field and a “Satisfaction Center” where the company provides complimentary drying towels and window cleaner.

The new car wash is set to be in business in late 2023 or early 2024.

ScrubaDub moved in at the 575 Park Ave. location in 2004, after it bought the 28,000-square-foot lot, according to the Worcester Registry of Deeds. There are two other Scrubadub locations in Worcester, on Shrewsbury Street and Grafton Street.

Scrubadub took over Minit Car Wash of Worcester, a family-owned business run by the Ciampi family. They opened a Minit Car Wash in Middleton.

On Park Avenue, a car repair business, Pro Transmission & Clutch, which had operated out of a space next door to ScrubaDub, closed in 2021 after the owner retired.

ScrubaDub continues to do business out of its two other locations in Worcester.

Throughout New England, it operates 20 locations, with its first one established by Marshall Paisner in Watertown in 1966.
