Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. Violent crime is up in San Diego County. Homicide, rape, and aggravated assault increased. Crimes against the elderly increased. Domestic violence increased. 2. The new plan is rolled out city-by-city throughout San Diego. It is called San Diego Community Power. Under the plan, SDGE will continue to provide all the infrastructure needed, while San Diego Community Power will provide the power itself. Under the plan, customers will receive one bill for infrastructure and another for the power itself. The new program offers ‘cleaner electricity,’ according to Cody Hooven, chief operating officer for SDCP. "So, we are 50 percent renewable on our base products, which is much higher than what SDG&E offers, and we always aim to be cost-competitive with them. So right now, we are actually 1 to 2 percent lower cost for the electricity, so it’s cleaner and a little bit lower cost," Hooven said. Customers can choose to buy 100 percent power from wind, solar, and other oil- and gas-free products. Customers do have the right to opt-out of the program if they wish. 3. Mask mandates have been lifted, or have they? In some instances, masks may still be required. For instance, some public school districts still require masks. Some cities still require masks. Some Ubers and Lyfts still require masks. Find out what you need to know. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CNBC)
