The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces said on March 19 that they were in control of an Islamic State “encampment area” in Baghuz.
The SDF said this was “significant progress” but not outright victory, as a group “confined into a tiny area” were continuing to fight.
Mustafa Bali, the SDF spokesman, tweeted a series of map images showing the territory SDF said had been claimed, near the Euphrates River.
