The Foo Fighters are no strangers to the Asbury Park beach. They played there in 2012 when they headlined the Bamboozle Festival.

Green Day and Stevie Nicks headlined last year's Sea Hear Now, which also featured performances by Boy George and Culture Club, My Morning Jacket, Wet Leg, Idles, Billy Strings, Cage the Elephant, Fletcher, and Gary Clark Jr.

There was also an exhibit of Bruce Springsteen's photography in the fest's Transparent Clinch Gallery pop-up tent in Bradley Park.

Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins headlined the 2021 Sea Hear Now after the fest was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID. The 2020 lineup was largely held over for the 2021 fest. Sea Hear Now debuted in 2018 with Jack Johnson and Incubus headlining. The Dave Matthews Band and Lumineers were on the top of the bill in 2019.

Sea Hear Now is produced by C3 Presents, the team behind Lollapalooza, and locals Danny Clinch and Tim Donnelly. Clinch is a Toms River native who has photographed the greats of music, from Bruce Springsteen to Tupac Shakur.
