Sea Turtles Rescued During Texas Winter Storm Released into Gulf

Thousands of sea turtles were released into the Gulf of Mexico on February 20 and 21, after they were rescued during a cold winter storm that swept through Texas.

This video uploaded by Sea Turtle Inc., shows the animals being released down a wet slide into the ocean.

According to Sea Turtle Inc., the rapid drop in temperatures in Texas put more than 4,900 turtles on South Padre Island at risk.

The organisation also added that “thousands of community members bundled up and volunteered long hours” to aid in the rescue. “Many with no electricity, water, or warmth in their own homes still assisted Sea Turtle Inc,” the organisation said. Credit: Sea Turtle, Inc via Storyful
