Seal wins Athlete of the Week

ARTHUR (WCIA) — Claire Seal is the WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week. The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond basketball player broke the school all-time scoring record earlier this season and she’s still counting, at nearly 1,400 with a month to go in the season. Seal also is closing in on 1,000 career rebounds, two stats she’s very proud of.

“It’s a lot of fun, it’s a great honor,” Seal said about breaking the record. “Obviously, I couldn’t do it without all my teammates and my coaches encouraging all of us. Rebounds are a lot harder to get than points I’ll admit. I’ve gotten a thousand points which is great but I think a thousand rebounds is even cooler.”

Seal is averaging 19.6 points, 13.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game, all team highs. The two-sport athlete also plays golf and is her class president, excelling in the classroom as well. She is now eligible for a $1,000 scholarship we’ll give away to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year. If you know a deserving high school student who should be our next athlete of the week, we’d love to hear from you.
