Sean McVay wants Rams to be sharper as camp winds down: ‘A lot of work to do’

Sean McVay likes the direction the Rams are headed, but he certainly doesn’t think they’re where they need to be just yet. Los Angeles still has two days of training camp left before heading home to Thousand Oaks, so he sees an opportunity for the team to end things on a high note.

He just sees a lot of work that still needs to be done once they return to Cal Lutheran and begin preparing for not only their three preseason games, but Week 1 against the Bills.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said. “I look at it as really, we’re just transitioning back to Cal Lu. A lot of our daily workloads will be very similar, but we sure can’t afford to miss any ops to come out here and get better. I think there was some things that I expect the overall operation to be much sharper for us to be where we need to be. We have some time, but I think our level of urgency needs to start picking up a little bit.”

McVay didn’t specifically point to areas that must improve, but when he was asked about the front seven, he didn’t seem all that thrilled with the play from that group. He said “it’s still early on” and there have been flashes, but he wants to “see it consistently day in and day out.”

By most accounts, the receiver group and secondary have done a nice job in practice thus far, with wins coming from both sides – including players such as Allen Robinson, Decobie Durant and Derion Kendrick. Tutu Atwell has also been a standout.

There’s now less than a month to go until the season opener, so the Rams will need to ramp up the intensity over the next few weeks before kickoff.
