Spicer's Gone, But What Next?
Sean Spicer is finally -- finally -- done with ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." The former White House press secretary was axed recently from the popular celebrity dancing competition.
During this season's premiere of "Dancing With the Stars," Spicer famously appeared on the show wearing a bright green ruffled shirt and looking like he was ready for action. In fact, he was derided for looking rather ridiculous.
And Spicer's turn as a dancer wasn't so well received. In fact, Spicer got a lot of low ratings, and yet continued to stay on the show. This angered a lot of fans.
While on the show, Spicer would often thank the guy who helped him stay on "DWTS" - the president.
"Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump I can't begin to express how much your continued support has meant, especially during my time on @DancingABC," Spicer has tweeted in the past.
And Spicer's political roots leaked out onto the competition as well.
"We need votes. I figured I'd go back to my roots. I'm going to run this like a campaign," he has said.
For Spicer's last dance on the show with Jenna Johnson, he moved to the tune of "Bills, Bills, Bills" by Destiny's Child. But he only earned 26 out of 40 points, sealing his fate.
"A great try by @seanspicer . We are all proud of you!" Trump then tweeted.
You would think that given how hated Spicer was on the show, that its ratings would bounce back after he left "DWTS." But that's far from the truth.
Even Carlton Can't Save It
Ratings were low last year, too, and bringing Spicer aboard was meant to buoy viewership. But it seems ABC sadly missed the mark on what they intended to accomplish.
The ratings have not rebounded, at least not yet. Perhaps the fans are still upset that Spicer's consistent low ratings managed to keep him on the show for as long as it did.
In fact, the ratings for "Dancing With the Stars" hasn't come back from the dead since its start this season.
Running On Fumes
And now we're heading into the finals of "DWTS," so it seems unlikely that new people will want to tune in to a season that's basically almost over.
According to cheatsheet, "Dancing With the Stars" may lose about 6 percent to 7 percent of its audience. That's about half a million people per episode. And 10 percent of viewers in the 18 to 49 demographic may not return to the show.
Did "Dancing With the Stars" put the final nail in the coffin just by bringing on Spicer?
