Search continues for horse killer in Greenbrier County

BLUE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WVNS) – The nightmare continues for farm owner Carie Ortman after her beloved miniature horses Mr. Ed and Chachi suffered gunshot wounds.

Chachi was found dead when Ortman and her husband found him outside of the fence line. Now, the community surrounding the Ortman family has come together to support them in their time of need.

“People I didn’t even know, total strangers were coming from the woodworks,” said Janice Mollet, a family friend.

“And even people we didn’t know, coming out of the woodworks They stayed here and helped us out,” said Ortman.

A yard sale was held to help raise money for Chachi’s remaining veterinary bills.

Community members who were once complete strangers, now have a special place in the Ortmans hearts. Ortman adds the extra money raised through the yard sale has been added to the reward.

Ortman told 59News she can sense the rest of her horses are mourning along with their human counterparts.

“They knew. They feel the loss they lost two brothers, they feel it just as heavily as we do, if not more so,” said Ortman.

Ortman gives her sincerest thanks to the community.
