Search underway for missing woman; police believe disappearance to be ‘well planned out’

A large search was launched Sunday in the hopes of finding a missing woman last seen in Trotwood.

According to Dayton Police Department, Cierra Chapman was last seen in the early morning hours on Tuesday, Dec. 27 leaving her ex-boyfriend’s apartment in Trotwood.

Chapman was driving her silver Cadillac, SRX 2014, Ohio plate JVQ8612, when she left the apartment.

Her vehicle was recovered on Jewell Avenue in Middletown Friday with no sign of Chapman, according to Maj. Brian Johns, commander of Dayton’s investigations division.

Johns said crews are currently processing the vehicle for evidence.

Her disappearance has been deemed “suspicious.”

“I have no doubt that people here in Dayton, Ohio know what happened. This was an orchestrated event...this was a very well planned out incident so people know,” Johns said.

A group of over 60 volunteers and officers gathered Sunday to search from west Dayton to Germantown and Middletown, including Ohio State Highway Patrol’s aviation unit.

Johns said the Dock Ellis Foundation and Chapman’s family also distributed flyers in the area where her car was found.

Police are asking anyone in the area of Jewell Avenue, Shelly Street and Tytus Avenue of Middletown to check their surveillance camera footage from Dec. 27 from 3-6 a.m. for Chapman’s car as well as those who live along State Route 4.

“This is somebody’s daughter, a mother as well ... so we need to bring her home,” Johns said.
