Sears Hometown Store to close in Wisconsin Rapids, liquidation sale underway

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Sears is closing in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Sears Hometown Store announced Friday morning it would begin a liquidation sale immediately that will run through July 14. Customers can see prices up to 40% off inside the store at 910 Huntington Ave.

Troy Swan, the store owner, told the Daily Tribune Friday morning he couldn't provide any additional details on the store closure.

Sears, Roebuck and Co. opened a catalog sales office in 1963 on Third Avenue South in Wisconsin Rapids. The store had catalogs where customers could order from, and employees would teletype orders to Chicago for next-day delivery.

Sears later held a store grand opening in 1973 in a new shopping center at 2340 Eighth St. S. in Wisconsin Rapids.

When Sears Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2018, Hometown Stores, like in Wisconsin Rapids were not affected. Sears Hometown broke away from Sears Holdings Corp. and became its own independent and publicly traded company in 2012. Sears Hometown Stores, like in Wisconsin Rapids, are independently owned and operated.
