Redesigned and refreshed in Palm Beach

Much is afoot at The Colony, where the hotel’s 89 room and suites will be fully redecorated by Dec. 1; more than half already are finished, boasting different designs and custom furnishings.

The hotel reopened Sept. 29 after a three-month closure. In addition to redoing the rooms, work also included repainting the hotel’s exterior and refreshing social and public spaces, such as the pool area and Swifty’s bistro.

Palm Beach-based Kemble Interiors has collaborated on the project.

A 'reimagining'

Elsewhere, new pools, kids’ activity centers and various new dining outlets — from an Italian restaurant to an ice cream parlor — are part of a “reimagining” completed in August at Eau Palm Beach Resort in Manalapan.

Eau’s officials tapped Palm Beach County-based interior-design firm Bilkey Llinas Design for the phased project, which was one of the resort’s most ambitious to date.

Decade of design

November marks the 10-year anniversary of an affiliation between The Breakers and international hospitality design firm Tihany Design.

The Breakers first tapped the firm, led by renowned designer Adam D. Tihany, in 2012 for the creation of HMF, the dining-and-drinking hotspot paying tribute to 1950s and ‘60s Palm Beach cocktail culture.

Since then, Tihany Design — an “incredible partner,” The Breakers’ CEO Paul Leone said — has collaborated with the resort on numerous spaces, from dining venues to accommodations.

In-room gadgets, more services

Over the summer The Brazilian Court outfitted its rooms and suites with tablet computers, providing quick access to such applications as room service and making dining reservations.

Guests also can “communicate with our guest-service staff,” said Stacy Lee, director of sales.

Also accessible with the tablets: shopping for Brazilian Court-branded items — from flip-flops to clothing — at the hotel’s new online boutique on Shopify.com.

Meanwhile, at the Four Seasons, new guest amenities are poised to include poolside gelato. In the coming weeks, a cart will make the rounds with house-made gelato in classic and newfangled flavors.

Elsewhere, the Pam Beach Historic Inn has added such new fee-based guest perks as bike rentals, gym passes, and laundry and car services.

Palm Beach’s architecture and shopping areas are highlighted in new travel packages offered by The White Elephant Palm Beach.

Another two-night package for two includes a four-hour shopping experience with a professional personalized shopper. That package, with a one-bedroom suite, starts at $5,200 for two.

Through December, playing polo is part of a two-night package at the Four Seasons. Included: polo lessons in Wellington with acclaimed pro polo player Nic Roldan. The package starts at around $4,600 for two people.

Hotel events

From Dec. 6 to Feb. 1, The Colony will exhibit in its solarium photographer Nick Mele’s first fine-art series, Please Sign in all Guests (2022). Mele is a Palm Beach-based lifestyle, fashion and interior-design photographer.

Other upcoming hotel-based events are set to include decorating mini gingerbread holiday houses at Christmastime at the Palm Beach Inn.

The open-to-the-public event — a date has not been finalized — will be led by What’s Cooking Kids, a Palm Beach Gardens-based outfit that offers hands-on cooking-related classes and workshops.

All quiet at The Chesterfield

The Chesterfield remains closed since it shuttered Sept. 6 for what employees then said were renovations.

London-based Reuben Brothers, which bought the 53-room hotel in April for $42 million, and its U.S. representatives has not responded to inquiries or declined to comment about future plans for the property.

The hotel will probably reopen at some point under a new name after renovations, commercial real estate experts have said.
