Seattle Center taking public comment on proposed monorail rate hikes

Seattle Center is taking public comment on proposed new monorail rates, the city announced Friday.

Currently, one-way tickets for adults ages 19 to 64 are $3.00. Starting July 1, they would increase to $3.25, and on Jan. 1, 2023, they would rise another quarter to $3.50.

One-way tickets for youth ages 6 to 18, currently $1.50, would increase to $1.75 effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Reduced rate one-way tickets, which are currently $1.50, would increase to $1.75 on Jan. 1, 2023.

Adult monthly non-ORCA passes, currently $60, would increase to $65 on July 1 of this year and increase to $70 on Jan. 1, 2023.

Reduced monthly non-ORCA passes would increase from $30 to $35 on Jan. 1, 2023.

According to the news release, the increased fares are to help the monorail keep up with rising costs and the city’s “commitment to preserving this historic system.”

The public can comment on the proposed fare increases through June 27 via emails to denise.well@seattle.gov or by calling 206-615-0258.

Comments will also be accepted at an online public meeting via Webex on June 22 at 4:30 p.m. Information for that meeting is as follows:
