Seattle’s Green Lake Library closing for major renovations, set to reopen in early 2024

The Seattle Public Library’s Green Lake branch will temporarily close for major renovations, including a comprehensive structural upgrade, starting Feb. 1.

The closure is expected to last through early 2024.

Along with the seismic retrofit of the branch, other renovations include improvements to the building’s interior and the installation of a new HVAC system.

Several accessibility improvements are also planned, including adding a new ramp from the sidewalk, a new ADA parking stall, new restrooms and an elevator that will serve both floors of the building.

This maintenance work was funded by the library’s 2019 levy.

During the closure, library patrons can utilize nearby locations, including the Greenwood, Northgate, Wallingford and University branches.

The branch is one of SPL’s historically landmarked buildings and originally opened in 1905.

It was last renovated in 2004.
