Seattle Storm unveils plans for new Interbay practice facility
The Seattle Storm’s ownership group submitted a master use permit application Friday for a new practice facility in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood, the team announced.
According to a news release, the “new, state-of-the-art professional basketball performance center” will be developed on a 50,000-square-foot parcel and will feature two side-by-side basketball courts, the Storm Team Center with locker rooms, a lounge and nutrition center for players, and strength and conditioning spaces.
The team’s business offices will also be located at the facility.
“The Storm facility will provide our athletes with a dedicated space to support them holistically, from training to health and wellness,” said Lisa Brummel, co-owner of the Seattle Storm. “This facility reflects our franchise legacy, our athletes’ success, and aims to promote and grow the women’s game and expand youth access to play.”
Currently, 85% of all project team members working to put the facility together are women.
The Storm’s ownership group says its goal is to “build a world class facility for world class female athletes with women-led teams, supported by men and women who are experts in their areas of specialty,” according to the news release.
Construction on the facility is expected to begin in spring 2023 and will be completed in time for training camp ahead of the 2024 WNBA season.
