SeaWorld opening new penguin-themed coaster this spring

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — SeaWorld Orlando is bringing a new rollercoaster to its park in the spring.

NBC affiliate WESH got a behind-the-scenes look at the new Penguin Trek ride.

The park’s eighth coaster is under construction in the Antarctica realm, WESH reported.

“We wanted to have a family ride that bridges the gap between our Sesame Street Land and our other rides and attractions throughout. This is a lower-rider height. So children 42 inches or taller can ride. That’s on average a 5-year-old,” Clint Brinker, the VP of design and engineering, told WESH.

The coaster reaches speeds of up to 43 miles an hour on a 3,000-foot-long track.

“More people can ride, families can ride together and enjoy this experience together, but it’s also got enough thrill with both the dark right element and the outdoors that it’s appealing to everybody,” Brinker said.

WESH said guests will also be treated to real penguins at the end of the ride.
