How Sebastian County voted

With 100% of the votes from the Tuesday, Nov. 8 midterm election in Sebastian County tallied, the election board reports Sebastian County voters mirrored other voters statewide n Arkansas.

Three of four state questions were defeated in Sebastian County while all of the questions were trailing statewide as final votes were tallied early Wednesday. Sebastian County voters were against recreational marijuana but supported a religious freedom amendment.

Early voting was heavier than in previous elections in the county, officials said.

For the Nov. 8 general election, there were 19,676 early votes cast in Sebastian County, or 27% of Sebastian County's registered voters cast ballots before Nov. 8, election coordinator Meghan Hassler said Tuesday.

Sebastian County voters cast ballots for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and other state offices. A U.S. Senate seat was decided as well as a seat in Congress.

Fort Smith voters picked a Democrat for the State House 49 seat for the northside of the city, the only blue House District seat in the River Valley. And a State Senate seat was decided in District 27.

There were four state questions including Issue 4 on legalization of recreational marijuana for adults.

Issue 1 proposed an extraordinary session for the general assembly failed with yes, 12,861, votes 42%, to the no votes against, 17,891, 58%.

Issue 2 required 60% voter approval of any future initiative petition questions that make the ballots in Arkansas that failed with yes votes totaling, 13,221, 43%, and those who voted no against it, 17,767, 57%.

Issue 3 was the Arkansas Religious Freedom Amendment that voters favored in Sebastian County, although it trailed statewide. Votes in Sebastian County for it cast 16,595 votes, or 53%, compared to no votes, 14,769 against, or 47.09%.

Issue 4 to legalize recreational marijuana failed in Sebastion County with 14,828 yes votes, 46%, to the no votes against it, 17,170, 53%.
