Sebring Hall of Fame to add two members in ceremony on Friday night

.

The Sebring Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its annual induction ceremony at Sebring McKinley High School between the boys junior varsity and varsity basketball games against Western Reserve on Friday.

The induction ceremony and basketball game will be dedicated to the memory of Joe Amabeli (class of 2005), a committee member and inductee who passed away May 18.

Inductees are Matt Johnston (1979) for track, basketball, football, and golf, and Jillian Faudree Schleuder (2009) for softball, volleyball, and cheerleading.

Johnston was a state qualifier in the high hurdles as well as the sectional and regional champion for the hurdles his senior year. That same year he set a record in the Mahoning County meet in the 300 hurdles at 40.1 seconds.

Johnston was also one of six senior MVPs on the basketball team coached by Rick Brook that won the sectional and district championships on the way to becoming regional runner-up.

Johnston earned three varsity letters on the golf team that garnered a sectional title in 1977. He was a sectional runner-up medalist that year. In his only year of playing football in 1978, Johnston received all-area honorable mention.

Now residing in Mentor, Johnston has been a sales consultant after earning a bachelor’s degree in mass media and communications from the University of Akron in 1984.

Faudree Schleuder was an All-Ohio second-team and an All-Northeast Ohio first-team selection for softball her senior year. An ITCL (Inter-Tri-County League) all-star for two years, she also gained a spot on the first team for Northeastern Ohio her junior year on her way to earning four letters in the sport.

In volleyball, Faudree Schleuder was a four-year letter winner, earning first-team All-ITCL honors in 2008. The previous year she was named to the second team for District I, Division IV.

Earning three varsity letters in cheerleading, Faudree Schleuder was a member of Sebring’s three state championship teams in the Division IV mount category from 2006 to 2008. She was also a nominee for 2009 Cheerleader of the Year, a program sponsored by Cheer Time Athletics.

Faudree Schleuder holds an associate degree in applied science from Youngstown State University. She resides in Canton with her husband Jon and two daughters. The Schleuders have an insurance agency and a property management business. In addition, Faudree Schleuder operates a part-time travel agency.

Following the varsity game, a cake and punch reception will be held in Brook Gym. The public is welcome to attend.
