SEC Baseball Power Rankings: LSU, Florida, Vanderbilt all make statements

The SEC is undeniably the best baseball conference in the country and most of the conference is playing great baseball right now.

Every team in the conference has a record above .500 and five teams have already won 20 or more games. Now that conference play is going, we will get to see plenty of exciting matchups and see how these teams fair against the best teams in the country.

This weekend saw some of the best teams in the conference face off as there were three ranked matchups. No. 5 Arkansas traveled to Baton Rouge to take on No. 1 LSU, No. 3 Florida took on No. 13 Ole Miss, and No. 12 Tennessee welcomed No. 21 Texas A&M to Knoxville.

Here’s how the teams stack up in our power rankings after the second series of conference play.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (14-11, 0-6 SEC)

The Bulldogs are still looking for their first SEC win after getting swept by Vanderbilt over the weekend. They were outscored 55-15 by Vanderbilt and will have to face South Carolina next weekend.

Texas A&M Aggies (15-9, 1-5 SEC)

After winning the final game against LSU last week it looked like they had something to build on, but Tennessee had other plans as the Aggies got swept in Knoxville.

Missouri Tigers, (17-6, 3-3 SEC)

Missouri came into the weekend red-hot after sweeping Tennessee but struggled on the road against South Carolina, losing all three games. They are still improved from last season but maybe not as much as they appeared.

Georgia Bulldogs (15-9, 1-5 SEC)

The Bulldogs may have lost the series against Auburn but they led in all three games and their offense is dangerous. They will need to be better in close games if they want to make some noise in the SEC.

Ole Miss Rebels (15-9, 0-6)

No team has a better understanding of how tough the SEC is than the Rebels. They are still looking for their first SEC win after getting swept by Vanderbilt and Florida, two top five teams nationally.

Auburn Tigers (16-7-1, 2-4 SEC)

The Tigers picked up their first series win of SEC play by winning the first two games against Georgia. It will be tough to celebrate though as they lost the final game of the series 24-7.

Alabama Crimson Tide (19-6, 2-4 SEC)

The Crimson Tide are just 2-4 in conference play but they have played both Florida and Kentucky tough. It won’t get any easier as they are set to host Arkansas next weekend as they look for their first SEC-series win.

Kentucky Wildcats (21-3, 5-1 SEC)

The Wildcats lost the final game of the series against Alabama to prevent picking up back-to-back sweeps. They will have a chance to prove they are for real next weekend when they host Missouri.

Tennessee Volunteers (19-6, 3-3)

The Volunteers responded perfectly after getting swept by Missouri last weekend, by sweeping No. 21 Texas A&M. After a slightly disappointing start (due to their sky-high expectations) to the season this could be what gets them going.

Arkansas Razorbacks (17-1, 4-2 SEC)

The Razorbacks took game one against No. 1 LSU in Baton Rouge but dropped the next two. They showed they are one of the top teams in the country despite the series loss.

Vanderbilt Commodores (19-5, 6-0 SEC)

Vanderbilt is finding its form as SEC play starts and its offense is starting to match its pitching staff. They scored 55 runs against Mississippi State including a 26-run outburst in game one.

South Carolina Gamecocks (23-2, 6-0 SEC)

The Gamecocks proved they were for real this weekend, sweeping No. 22 Missouri and winning two close games.

Florida Gators (22-4, 5-1 SEC)

The Gators also made a big statement this weekend, sweeping No. 13 Ole Miss in Oxford. Jac Caglianome is one of the most exciting players in college baseball and Wyatt Langford is back after a gnarly injury.

LSU Tigers (21-3, 4-2 SEC)

The Tigers are the best team in not just the SEC but the entire country and they proved it this weekend. After dropping the first game against Arkansas, they outscored them 26-7 in the final two games to take the series.
