SEC Championship game brings big economic impact to Atlanta

Thousands of people are in downtown Atlanta for the big SEC Championship game tonight between UGA and LSU.

Even if you aren’t a football fan, that’s good news.

The game is a huge economic boost for the city and a big weekend for businesses.

Channel 2 Action News’ Larry Spruill visited a small business that is benefitting heavily from all of the interest.

Staff members at Sports Mania, on the corner of Marietta Street and Centennial Olympic Park, have been busy all weekend preparing for the big game.

They carry UGA items, LSU merchandise, and Falcons and Steelers gear for the big NFL game tomorrow here in Atlanta.

The owner said this weekend is not the only weekend they’re looking forward to.

“Has it been a good weekend for Atlanta? Yes. Economic impact, great event for this city to host. This will be, if Georgia wins tonight, everybody knows a third time with the Peach Bowl. More than likely Georgia will play in it. We’ll know that tomorrow,” said Sports Mania owner John Smith.

A lot of people in the city means safety is a concern.
