Second annual Port Aransas Farley Boat Lighting Contest is underway

For the second straight year, the Port Aransas community is participating in a Farley boat lighting contest for a good cause.

Residents have covered Farley boats in Christmas decorations in an effort to raise money for the Port Aransas Light Up Campaign.

Sponsored by the Port Aransas Garden Club, the contest has a total of 42 boat entries.

“Port Aransas Emergency Services Toy Round Up is blessed to have the Garden Club and its many members to help raise money for Christmas gifts for many children in our area," said Joe Garza, manager of the Port Aransas Light Up Campaign.

Awards are presented in three categories: residential, business and condo/RV/clubs. They will be judged by independent judges.

Boats will be judged by the following criteria on a scale of 1-10: originality/creativity, overall presentation and attractive use of lights and colors.

A People's Choice award will be given to one boat by the Port Aransas community and visitors.

To place a vote, one must purchase a set number of votes in person or online and select a boat to put them toward. All proceeds from the voting will benefit the Port Aransas EMS Toy Roundup.

The winners will be announced on the Port Aransas Garden Club Facebook page.
