WELLSBORO, Pa. (WETM) — Foodies can try different chilis and chowders while helping an animal sanctuary and having the chance to win chocolate in Wellsboro this weekend.
Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries is holding Chili and Chowder with a Chance for Chocolate during Wellsboro’s Winter Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 10. Thirteen businesses in Downtown Wellsboro will be offering samples of chili or chowder for people with tasting passports from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Second Chance has held chili tasting events in the past, but this will be the first year chowder will be available.
“We wanted to add chowders for our friends who aren’t crazy about chili, but still want to support local animals in need and get chances to win chocolate,” said Jim Howe, president of Second chance’s board and one of its founders. “This event has grown every year thanks to support from the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce and its Winter Celebration, as well as the fantastic local businesses that serve as tasting sites. We’re can’t wait to see what they cook up this year.”
Tasting passports cost $10 and can be purchased at the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce at 114 Main St. in advance or at Penn Oak Realty at 65 Main St. during the event. Tasters can enter for a chance to win various chocolate prizes at each tasting location and vote for their favorite three dishes at the end. Finished passports can be dropped off at any of the tasting or passport purchase locations.
All proceeds from tasting passport sales will go to Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries. This nonprofit has been helping homeless cats and dogs in Tioga County, Pennsylvania find new homes for the past 22 years.
