Second Child In NJ Dies Due To Coronavirus

NEW JERSEY – New Jersey announced on Monday the second death of a child in the state because of coronavirus complications.

Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli announced that a young child with an underlying conditions died because of the coronavirus.

Gov. Phil Murphy called it an "awful loss" and said it was not the result of multisystem inflammatory syndrome that has impacted a number of children amid the coronavirus crisis.

Last month, a 4-year-old child died, but state officials declined to provide further details, respecting the family's privacy.

"That precious 4-year-old – unfathomable," Murphy said during another news conference.

Persichilli said that child also had an underlying medical condition that may have contributed to the death.
