Second German Patriot SAM to arrive in Ukraine this year, says Scholz

A second Patriot Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Dec. 13.

During an address in the Bundestag, Scholz said that Ukraine’s capability to defend itself against Russian drones and missiles has improved.

In addition to the Patriot, Scholz said that Kyiv will also receive armored vehicles, ammunition, winter protective gear for Ukrainian soldiers, and power generators.

“All of this is extremely necessary because Russia has now fully committed its economy to this war. The production of weapons in Russia is in full swing,” said Scholz.

Training to use the Patriot system had been completed in Germany with an additional 70 Ukrainian military personnel participating, according to German media reports on Dec. 2.
