Second indoor flood causes Compton Courthouse to close until further notice

The Compton Courthouse will be closed until further notice after a pipe burst over the weekend led to major indoor flooding, officials announced Monday.

The courthouse’s public elevators, stairwells, jury room and much of the lobby are inaccessible due to the flood, according to a media release from the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The courthouse is located at 200 West Compton Boulevard.

This is the second time in less than a month a major flood caused by a pipe burst has impacted court service, according to officials.

“The Court is in the process of working with partners at the Judicial Council of California, who own and operate the facility, to assess the damage and obtain an estimate of when the courthouse will reopen.” a news release said.

“All imperative and in-custody matters will be transferred immediately to another courthouse for hearing. All matters will be continued.”

Compton Courthouse staff were available outside the location Monday morning to assist visitors and answer questions.

“Parties with cases on the calendar today will be notified of transfers or continuances by the Court upon visiting the courthouse,” according to officials.

Another way to check the status of a case is through the Court’s online services.

Those impacted by the closure can call 310-761-4300 or visit the courthouse website for assistance.
