A military plane has gone off the runway at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

A few emergency vehicles were at the scene Tuesday afternoon. The site of the incident is to the west of Minnesota Avenue.

At least one ambulance was on scene, although it’s unclear whether there are injuries or how bad.

This is the second time this month a military plane has gone off the runway.

That was May 11, when an Air National Guard plane, an F-16, overran Runway 15 on the southside of the airport near the water treatment plant and the landing gear collapsed, according to a release from the 114th Fighter Wing.

Tuesday’s incident at 4:17 p.m. involved an F-16C aircraft assigned to the 114th Fighter Wing, South Dakota Air National Guard, according to a press release from the unit.

The plane departed the edge of runway 33 upon returning from a routine training mission, the release stated.

“The pilot has been assessed and released by emergency crews and the scene has been turned over to the 114th Fighter Wing incident commander,” the release stated.

The Wing has formed an interim safety board to begin investigating Tuesday’s incident.

Follow-up information will be provided as it becomes available in both instances, the unit stated.
